Flexen needs to work on his passing to stay on the court. Tangutur is a good player but they need Flexen to be in the top 5 teams. We finally had a D'Arcy appearance, although brief. I think he looks stronger than last year so that's good.

Some comments on the match.
Flexen hurt his shoulder last night in the second set, after getting a kill to make it 10-10 in the second set. He was not pulled due to his passing. Had a huge ice bag on his right shoulder after going to the locker room. Very surprised that Rob and Charlie made no mention of this and seemed completely oblivious to the injury even though during timeouts the camera was focused on Flexen and the ice bag on his shoulder. Maybe they are not allowed to comment on injuries? Dahm turned an ankle late in the match, but stayed in. He looked very uncomfortable though and I would not be surprised if he misses the rematch.
Up ref called a very loose game. A lot of lifts/throws were allowed or Euro Doubles as Rob called them. I like that term. I wish they would clean that up, but perhaps they have been instructed to let them go. Henno takes full advantage of the no-calls and abuses the block with his two hand throws. I don't blame him. If they are not going to call it why not keep doing them? He scores on them almost every time.
Despite a career high in kills, I don't think Henno is 100% which could be scary if he ever does get back to full health. His serve is way off compared to last year and he seems to be very selective or careful as to when he takes a full swing on both serves and hits. He is a very smart hitter and his off speed shots were working last night.
At 25 all in the 4th set, Tangutur blasts one off of Blanchett's head and proceeds to rake the net on his follow through right in front of the up ref. Total blown call and not challenged by USC. Either they were out of challenges or were not paying attention. Being that it was such a critical point, I can't believe they did not challenge the net touch. Rob and Charlie did not mention the net and either also missed it or chose to ignore it.
As the match went on USC seemed to become very undisciplined on blocking and defense. This seems to be a pattern this year and in previous years. UCI was grinding out points and took advantage of USC's mistakes. The match was kind of strange. USC had the more impressive looking kills, but still lost.
Rematch should be a good one.

He has the 6th best hitting percentage in the NCAAs and has 150 kills. He is the only one with over 95 in the top 8. He is 6th in aces per set. 4th in kills per set and 3rd in points per set. And those stats have been compiled playing against good teams - 2 x UCLA, 2 x BYU, Princeton, USC, George Mason. Only 2 matches against teams not ranked in top 20.
