this is perplexing to me.
They've been consistently solid, getting good wins year in year out for the recent past. Seems like best program that is not affiliated with a conference.
Seems like they are a level that would win the NEC or Conference Carolinas, and compete well in the MIVA
choice or just no league wants them?

They have wanted to join a conference for years. They are pretty much in the same situation Queens was in, they are either just too far for other established teams in the respective conferences to add them, the fact they are DII trying to enter DI conferences, or in the case for the Conference Carolina’s, they only accept Conference Carolina members for men’s volleyball. The main reason that Queens got into the MIVA was because of their transition to DI, which I do not believe Lincoln Memorial is doing anytime soon. I do believe Lincoln Memorial will get in a conference within the next couple of years with their school’s conference (SAC) starting to gain traction for teams as Bill Ferguson’s Catawba College is joining next year and a couple of other teams in the conference are joining in 2026 and 2027.

I had heard the MIVA actually invited LMU a few years ago, but university administrators shot it down (I would assume coach Cash would have wanted to make the move). This is not stated as fact, but again, just something I heard. Who else is joining the SAC outside of Catawba?

As it stands right now, Lincoln Memorial, Tusculum, and Catawba are the only three schools that have men’s volleyball as SAC members. I have two sources of athletic administrators from schools in the SAC who I will not name for confidentiality reasons. They explained that two schools in North Carolina in their conference have expressed interest, one more so than the other for their history with women’s volleyball. Adding just one would create four teams, which will trigger two other members who cut in the past to add back, those schools are Limestone and Coker. Both of those schools cut for various reasons with Limestone as a combination of minor financial and lack of support for an independent non-conference team and Coker because of the previous administration’s hatred of men’s volleyball (that’s a story for another time) and the current administration will add them back if it means a conference title is at stake to play for.

Additionally, with the noise that a Division II Championship is a 70% possibility in the near future (3 - 4 years), It is possible that the SAC will push hard to be the 4th Div II conference to announce sponsorship of the sport along with the Conference Carolinas, SIAC, ECC. I do not believe the GLVC made an announcement.
