Crazy pricing? Was wondering what the cost around the country is to watch a club vollleyball tournament. At The Mizuno Presidents Tourney in Wisc. Dells at the Dome this weekend it’s $15 to enter and $5 to park per day. I can get a MLB bleacher ticket for less than that on kids and seniors day at a MLB game. If a family of four wants to take their kids to see a cousin or a neighbor play it’s $60 to get in the door for volleyball.
Last week in Madison for Badger Regionals it was $3 for seniors per day and free parking.

When you break it down to how many matches you can watch the price seems better. MLB you watch one game for three hours. For club volleyball you can watch usually four matches for $15 (which is normally the number of matches a team plays in one day) but you can stay for longer and watch 8 matches for $15.
Usually two days or three days offer weekend packages, which makes the cost less per day.

Sounds about right….in fact that’s not all that pricey. Often much more expensive, esp for parking as in bigger cities often you have to use city garages and whatnot. Source: my wallet after my kid played club volleyball for 6 years.

Price is going to vary depending on the size of the tournament and the size/type of facility where its being played. From the name of the tournament and the facility, I'm assuming this was a larger tournament and played in a good size facility that typically is costly to rent both the facility and the equipment such as courts. Plus sounds like its located in a resort vacation area which typically adds to the cost of renting the facility. That ticket price is typical for large tournaments. Parking cost is cheap compared to the cost of parking near large city event centers. I also suspect you pay more than $5 to go to the MLB game. Also your comparing the cost of the "cheap seats" at the MLB game and for a game that has special pricing for those seats. I suspect the bleacher seats cost more at the normal game and definitely less than for non-bleacher seats.

Check on who is running the tournament. It is not readily obvious, you have to dig a bit sometimes. The tournament may say such and such club, and they may have hosted that tournament for years, but the landscape of club volleyball has changed dramatically since 3 Step Sports and LOVB have come on the scene, offering turn key operation to former club owners and having bought them and their tournaments. Now the tournaments are operated by the actual owners of the club names, for better or worse. Better because the operations are a bit smoother but possibly worse because of the pricing.
I had heard that almost all the formerly large JVA/AAU tournaments are 3 Step operated. Triple Crown is their own entity. Qualifiers are USAV.
My club used to operate a large tournament but that was sold, lock, stock, and barrel to a USAV region.
I would say if you are talking about a convention center sized tournament, you are talking about some big business operating it, and they need to squeeze money out of it or else why do it?

That is still relatively inexpensive. In SoCal, on a regional tournament day, at Momentous (Formerly Misty May) it costs $15 to get in AND $20 to park a half mile away. Teriyaki bowl for only $15 more, lol. Best part is they charge that for each of your children as well =) The more things change the more they stay the same, lol.

LOL funny but so true. I agree with OP the tournaments should be free, but.... if those running them see a means to pass the cost off on the consumer, they will. Just like how everything else is passed down.

I get it if Nationals and large regional tournaments (NEC, MEQ, etc.) charge admission, fees for spectators, etc. but not every tournament should.

From Capitol Hill website... How much are tickets? Daily tickets (1 day) are available for purchase for $22 plus processing fees. Weekend tickets (3 days) are available for purchase for $54 plus processing fees. Does my young child need a ticket? Those 10 and older need to purchase a ticket. Those 9 and younger do not need a ticket, but must enter with a ticketed adult. LOL funny but so true. I agree with OP the tournaments should be free, but.... if those running them see a means to pass the cost off on the consumer, they will. Just like how everything else is passed down. Well ... let's have parents not bring in food/garbage/use bathrooms so facilities don't need employees and then we don't have to pay to get in. Capitol Hill said they did not allow food or water to be brought into the facility. Not sure how strictly that was enforced. I do know it was $13 for ice cream and $16 for a sub. And I'm pretty sure I saw a stand to do hair and makeup.

Triple Crown $53 for an adult ticket; Student (5-17) & seniors (65+) were $35. My problem is charging or little kids. The siblings being drug around to these tournaments don't want to be there, don't charge for them (besides, you'll make up for their entry fees at the concessions where they drag the parents between every set.)
