in socal we're paying 20-25 for parking, 15-20 for parent admission, and 20 for lukewarm chicken strips/bland acai bowls.

On the boys side, the SoCal stuff in the LA Convention center is by far the most expensive. Granted, we have to stay in a hotel, so there is no parking cost (I'll gladly trade $20/day parking for $200/night hotel room).
These are all advanced purchase, 3 day tournament tickets. If we were to buy daily tickets at the door, I think it would have been about $5 more per ticket, per day. ChiTown Boys Challenge at McCormick Place- $35 - 3 day pass SoCal The Open Championship at the LA Convention Center - $78 - 3 day pass HVA Winter Classic - $25 - 2 day pass plus $10 - two day parking pass Austin Southwest Boys Classic at the Auston Convention Center - $37.5 - 3 day pass. I think parking was about $15 a day Dennis Lafata at the St Louis Convention Center - $45 - 3 day pass
So $15/day admission fee is pretty close for us.

Check on who is running the tournament. It is not readily obvious, you have to dig a bit sometimes. The tournament may say such and such club, and they may have hosted that tournament for years, but the landscape of club volleyball has changed dramatically since 3 Step Sports and LOVB have come on the scene, offering turn key operation to former club owners and having bought them and their tournaments. Now the tournaments are operated by the actual owners of the club names, for better or worse. Better because the operations are a bit smoother but possibly worse because of the pricing. I had heard that almost all the formerly large JVA/AAU tournaments are 3 Step operated. Triple Crown is their own entity. Qualifiers are USAV. My club used to operate a large tournament but that was sold, lock, stock, and barrel to a USAV region. I would say if you are talking about a convention center sized tournament, you are talking about some big business operating it, and they need to squeeze money out of it or else why do it? 3 Step bought the JVA Tournaments Series last year or two years ago. They also bought some of the stand alone tournaments such as Bluegrass. I know a couple of 3 Step clubs in the area have really started turning the screws to pay corporate daddy. Gotta go to 3 Step events and use 3 Step travel arraignments while wearing 3 Step gear. I get economies of scale but yikes. What club got bought by a region? That seems weird to me as regions exist (in my mind) to facilitate clubs and having that real or perceived bias of owning a club would be counterproductive.

JVA World Challenge, that is now 3 Step.

Wear navy pants white shoes and carry flags in the backpack and it’s free everytime for me Work some matches and you end up making more money than what you would have paid. You get to watch for free, make the same calls you’d do from the stands, and you’ll get paid for the same thing.
