pretty sure someone can just make an AI app to do this thing for the coaches
last week's poll + recency bias + huh? results that make one pause a bit but don't react too much more than 2 spots - limitations on movement in spots = new week's poll

Geez…I have questions. Stanford without Rottman needs to be rated as such. Ball State beat Loyola twice this year and most recently Saturday - probs should flip those two. I could go on, but I’m not much for stirring the pot when it will all sort itself out the end.

#1) Beach/Haw/GCU/UCLA
#5) Irvine/PSU/OSU
#9+) who really cares? well, we have to put teams there. Stanford, when will it be realized it's February, January was a ways ago Loyola was moving up, but then they weren't We keep thinking BYU is good, but then they aren't Pepperdine will beat somebody at some point to prove they belong here fill in the story line here

They are very overrated. I don't know where to put Stanford at this point. They have a fantastic setter, but without Will Rottman, I'm not sure where they fall in.

How does MIVA leading Ball State win both of their matches with Loyola and are ranked behind 4th place Loyola?

Right now, they probably not a top 10 team, but then as soon as Will comes back should the coaches just chuck them right back up to where they were pre-injury, back into the top 5? They're kinda splitting the difference right now, which is fine,, I guess. I don't have a better solution to ranking injured teams. I imagine some of the coaches have Stanford really high and others have them low, resulting in their current mid rank.

Honestly it caught me by surprise when I first learned that BYU was ranked #6 last week. I don’t know what they did to get there that’s why I am still not 100% sold on GCU even when they won both matches.

BYU has a good resume with a lot of good ranked wins (vs. #13 Ball State x2, @ #12 Loyola Chicago, @ #18 UCSB x2, vs. #14 Princeton x2). Issue is that they’ve looked like a completely different team against top-10 opponents, and they certainly don’t pass the eye test.

Definitely agree that they don’t pass the eye test and that’s probably why it caught me by surprise.

First match they lost by 2 in every set against GCU. That's pretty close. Against Irvine they went to 4 and 5 sets. I don't think they are a top 5 team but definitely in the top 10 right now with how competitive everyone seems to be this year.
