Episode 210, College Volleyball Weekly, Men’s Top 20, Week 7 Recap & Week 8 Preview, 2/19/24The CVW panel dives quickly into the recap with "The Elephant in the Room" segment that features our Coaches' matches during week 7. Lindenwood got the better end of a match vs. Dan's Flyers, Brad and the Tritons were at the SIAC/Big West Invite in Long Beach, and we discuss Jay's and Theo's wins for the week as well. It was another solid week of action and there still remains one undefeated team at 11-0-- the Lopes of GCU. We take a peek at some of the top series/matches during week 7, and although there weren't a bunch of surprises one thing does remain clear. If you're not careful anyone can beat anyone on any given night. From there we jump into an "Insights After 7 Weeks" as the coaches assess what we've seen almost at the halfway point of the 2024 season. Stay listening to catch the "Whatcha Watchin'" segment as the panel selects some good matches to keep your eyes on! iTunes: apple.co/4bCyUYVPodbean: bit.ly/3UMf6vXYouTube:

Thanks for asking the question Rob 👍
Good to know they're switching from RPI to KPI. Anyone knows the biggest difference between the 2?

Thanks for asking the question Rob 👍 Good to know they're switching from RPI to KPI. Anyone knows the biggest difference between the 2? One of the best explanations from a volleyball standpoint can be found over on the Women's side (since it's near impossible to find any documentation on the Men's side-- it was alluded to on this week's episode)... volleytalk.proboards.com/thread/91198/kpi-rankings

Good for Shewy and his beard. It's a rule on the Hawaii team to be clean shaved by the time first season practice begins. So makes sense that Shewy was gonna let it flowwww when he transfered to UCI.

Thanks for asking the question Rob 👍 Good to know they're switching from RPI to KPI. Anyone knows the biggest difference between the 2? The 2 BW coaches answered the question and interpreted the way I thought of it... they basically said that they are running lineups and the primary focus is on getting to the conference tournament in the best shape and position to win it, especially after the at large bid was not in the cards due to too many out of conference losses. That makes sense to me. It might be wise to play a future opponent without the exact strategy or show your exact lineup that you plan to use a few weeks later when it really matters if a loss will not change teh matchup you want in the bracket... or maybe a loss will give a team a better perceived matchup. Not saying a team would throw a game but I can definitively see some coaches not run the heck out of a specific offense that they feel is developed and ready to go so other teams don't get too much film on it or are guessing when game planning. The other coaches' answers were interesting too but I think were based more on the assumption on how to develop a team long term and play future stars vs current stars. Since almost every team these days is in it until their last game I think there is less reason to bench a senior starter because the team is not going to make playoffs. In the old days of the giant MPSF, there were more teams outside the top 8 that were done before the last few matches of the season.
