Is Reagan just keeping the head coaching seat warm? Until they can find a Long Beach State alum to hire as next head coach, keep it in the family so to speak as The Beach has kept it that way the last 4 decades.

I imagine that all depends on what the record next season is. Say for example they had 250k in salary slotted for Tyler. They can probably hire a head coach with no previous head coaching experience for cheap at 100k. What do they do with the savings? Does the AD balance the overall athletic budget with the savings or does he search for a more experienced head coach. I guess the question is do they allow Reagan a year to prove herself and if she does well enough make the cheap hire. Or will the AD conduct a national search for the next head coach using most if not all of the salary previously slotted to Tyler? Remember they allowed Sabrina Hernandez to prove herself for part of a season and even though she did well they still conducted a national search to hire Tyler.

I'd expect it'll become permanent if the team progresses well this year. The fact she & Huus has the team together intact is a major accomplishment itself right now. there's no former alums anyway that would be serious candidates at this statge, aside from Chidester in Oregon if she was interested, and can't imagine she'd want to leave that gig.

Tyler wasn't the result of any national search. Tyler was a one-off, where the inquiry was made once Joy was let go. there was no national search, the AD set their sights on Tyler, and convinced him, with some $$, to come. Had Tyler not decided come, maybe Hernandez might have been given more consideration, but that wasn't how it played out. they are not gonna pay Reagan or any new head coach the salary Tyler got, that was a one off. Reagan will get a great bump, and likely/hopefully incentives. Even then Beach will still probably be upper tier Big West salary, which probably isn't hard to do. Tyler was such a one off situation. I would guess Hawaii, Beach, Poly UCSB pay the most. It's not gonna be 'cheap' compared to the rest of the BIg West. & Tyler was in an entirely different stratosphere with his deal.

lol, they aren't going to pay only $100k, that's silly & ridiculously low, for Beach. The Beach coach hasn't made sub 100 since probably going back 20 years or so or further back. My guess is it's probably $120-$135k ish, but who knows how incentivized it is. They are giving her a shot, and she's got extreme motivation to make it work obviously.

The deal with Tyler was in the works before Joy was let go. And, it's silly to be so optimistic about the interim appointment. If Tyler struggled to get to the top of the Big West, why would you think a knock-off coach wouldn't?

If Tyler struggled to get to the top of the Big West, why would you think a knock-off coach wouldn't? it's never silly to be optimistic. the bulk of the team returns. Tyler wasn't a perfect game coach at times either. Walters did a nice job being thrust into an interim, and that was for when the season had already begun. I guess if one wants to poo - poo everything that could happen as if it's impossible to make even incremental progress, then whatever. you are bascially just going with the position taht she just can't coach, and you don't know that you really don't any more than I know they'll win the Big West, which is far from a given. you give an impression she's just gonna fail, sheesh I guess your insight into teaching capabilities is so enormous, your cyrstal ball is obviously perfect, lol.

You don't need to have a crystal ball to know that she has been at Long Beach for one season, and that she never previously coached Tyler's system before. I think the fact that the team has stayed intact and players haven't skipped out is a good sign and an indication that the interim appointment was a good thing. I just don't buy the premise that because she was appointed as the interim, in large part because of the timing of Tyler's departure, that should give her any kind of inside edge to the permanent one. How the new AD decides to proceed when the interim appointment comes up for review will say a lot about the state of the athletic department and the commitment to one of its historically marquee programs. I'm not particularly optimistic about either.
