The 18th-ranked Ohio State (9-5 overall, 2-3 Big Ten) women's volleyball team dropped an 0-3 (25-30, 18-30, 20-30) decision at No. 8 Wisconsin (13-1, 5-0) Friday night. OSU's Danielle Meyer (So., Cincinnati, Ohio) scored a team-high 14 points with Ami Stevens (So., Centerburg, Ohio), Nicole Britenriker (So., Cincinnati, Ohio) and Ashley Kiel (Jr., Allenton, Wis.) adding 10 each. Meyer recorded a team-high 12 kills and four assist blocks, Kiel had nine kills and an ace serve, while Stevens and Britenriker had 10 kills each. Wisconsin's Maria Carlini posted a match-high 16 points with Sheila Shaw recording 14 and Aubrey Meierotto adding 13. Carlini had a team-high 12 kills with an ace serve, two solo blocks and two assist blocks, Shaw added nine kills, a solo block and eight assist blocks while Meierotto had 11 kills, an ace serve and two assist blocks.
With game one tied at six, three consecutive kills from Meierotto opened a 9-6 Badger lead. Wisconsin took the lead to eight at 21-13. OSU was able to reduce the lead to four, several times, the last at 29-25 off a Meyer kill before a Meierotto kill ended the game at 30-25. The Badgers hit .405 for the game to .312 for the Buckeyes.
Game two was tied at four when a kill from Wisconsin's Carlini and a Taylor Reineke and Jackie Simpson block gave the Badgers a 6-4 lead. At 11-7 Wisconsin, an 11-point badger run opened a 22-7 lead. At 29-18, a Shaw kill ended the game for the Badgers at 30-18. Wisconsin hit .333 for the game to -.023 for OSU.
Wisconsin broke a one-all tie in game three off an OSU error and a Shaw-Audra Jeffers block to take a 3-1 lead. At 26-20, the Badgers scored the final four points of the match, closing out the game with a Meierotto kill for a 30-20 win. Wisconsin hit .371 for the game to .075 for Ohio State.
For the match, Wisconsin hit .374 to .129 for the Buckeyes. The Badgers had a 49-46 margin in kills and a three to one advantage in ace serves. The Buckeyes gave up six service errors to three for Wisconsin. Defensively, the Badgers had a 45-39 edge in digs with Jocelyn Wack recording a match-high 13. At the net, Wisconsin had a 15 to four margin in team blocks with Shaw recording a match-high nine blocks with one solo and eight assists. Simpson had 36 assists for Wisconsin with OSU's Marisa Main (Jr., Louisville, Ky.) collecting a match-high 39.
Ohio State continues the weekend road trip with a match at Northwestern Saturday.
