Thank u for including Dominicana in your poll, even if only for knocking out Serbia in the 2023 VNL DOM has never qualified for a VNL final round (top 4, top 6, or top 8) though they have been close multiple years now.  |

trojansc -- how is DR looking health-wise? I feel like that's hurt them a little in those "winnable" early rounds. Also, Betty? Do we think they'll bring her, if just for some relief on the other OHs? DOM just doesn't have any high-quality depth. They can't afford to rotate rosters or even risk sitting a couple people. But health-wise I'm not too concerned, except that Betty's old and the team just plays a ton of matches/tournaments/etc.. I definitely think Betty will/should go (at least for most weeks). Peralta and Guillen aren't really going to knock out the top 6 in the world. I really like the idea of DOM using 2 DS's per set (which is something they've done recently), their offense is good enough with Brayelin/Gaila/Jineiry to score without needing another attacker out of the back. This is where a 14-player roster really benefits a team like DOM. It also gives the passing OH's a break and takes slightly less pressure off Brenda to poach every pass that she possibly can. Brenda also like, rules the world. So if Brenda wants a week (or the entire tournament off) that's what Brenda gets. Even though Brenda was only off one week, any of those losses turned to a win could have been a difference maker. There is a LOT less pressure on DOM since they won their Olympic Qualifying pool. This was going to be a high stakes tournament if not. I'm not worried about them making the Finals this VNL actually - I'd just like a little momentum going into Paris. |
