Maybe I'm not understanding how the VNL Final works. I thought that the top 8 teams in the standings make it to the Finals. According to the standings I'm looking at, Canada is currently #7, USA is #8, and the Netherlands is #9, so if the USA were to lose both it's final 2 matches, Canada would remain at #7 and the USA would remain below them. Thailand is automatically qualified as VNL hosts even though they aren't going to be in the Top 8. So really, #7 is the cut-line. #8 is not making it to the VNL Finals.

Of DOM's 12 VNL matches in 2023 - half (6 matches) went five. This year, battling some injury and absence, none of their matches have went 5.

Until now! Thanks to Tapia's 31 points, Bulgaria and Dominican Republic are headed to a 5th set!

Bulgaria wins it, 15-13 in the 5th. Congrats to them. A pretty awful VNL for DOM even with the injuries.. hopefully they can recover for Paris. 37 points for Tapia though, so, maybe she can make some noise at the Olympics.

DOM lost 54.28 points this VNL. Hopefully they can really get things together with Brenda in Paris. But she had well-deserved rest after helping the team qualify directly in China.

Japan (I'm expecting them to sweep Serbia) could jump USA in World Ranking if Japan sweeps USA. That would knock USA down to 3rd draw group. China could also potentially jump USA depending on how things play out and put USA down to the 3rd group too.

There's an outside chance China misses VNL Finals too (USA beats Japan, Netherlands sweeps Korea, and China gets swept by both Turkey/Poland)

I wanted Dominican Republic to win that for Tapia's great performance. I hope she gets into a good club to further develop.

Losing the chance to get Netherlands (and the possibility of a dream pool - fra, Ned, Ken) would suck, esp. cuz with the new format there’s less knockout advantage for making it through the group of death.
