Cai bin confirmed b team going to finals That makes sense! Why prepare your team for the Olympics playing a playoff tournament, basically in your backyard, against the best nations in the world, when you can just have a great extra week of practices! historically it has worked, a tradition that stems from JLP
fwiw i think it's dumb

i consider the source to be fairly reliable but you never know... I heard that China had their B/C team already training for the finals prior to week 3 with names like Yang Hanyu, Wang Yizhu, and Wang Yunlu. and that Zhang, Zhuang Yushan, and Xu Xiaoting will be joining them.

Do you have any idea why Gong was crying? Chinese press are reporting fatigue and burnout as a reason. Gong is simply tired out and had a brief emotional outburst before restoring emotional calm. Not the best time to do so during a match of course. Btw, this isn't the first time Gong had cried. She had done so before after a match. Mind you, while Gong Xiangyu is by nature a more low-key person and doesn't always capture the limelight like Zhu Ting and Li Yingying, her role is critical for the team to ensure decent reception and passing. Btw, Chinese press reported Zhu also suffered a bout of burnout after Tokyo and that was one reason why she left the Chinese team for three years. She just needed some time off away from the Chinese NT. Mental health traditionally is a neglected area in Confucian Asian societies, places like China, Japan and Korea didn't pay much attention to it. That is starting to change. But China overall still lags a lot in terms of resources and expertise in mental healthcare. That is why some Chinese athletes, despite physically capable and performing well, have often seen to be mentally "fragile". Sports psychology wasn't something known to China until relatively recently.

Is this data downloadable from some site no :/ but if there's something you want to know, I can share it. Can you do one for hitting percentages? Curious who the most efficient and highest KP pins are.

Do you have any idea why Gong was crying? bc this match secured more job security for cai bin (/s) The main issue with Cai, according to angry Chinese fans, is that he is stubborn to a pigheaded degree yet also incompetent and unable to see his own mistakes and adjust course. They accused him of keeping players clearly not performing at the NT level, like Wang Yunlu, while blatantly ignoring capable players. For example, Diao Linyu is seen as very medicore at best as a setter, being rather inconsistent. While refusing to let Yao Di, the Tianjin setter, return to the team, despite Yao having more experience and arguably a better setter than Diao. So Cai also play personal favorites too over objective decision-making, or so claim the Chinese fans (of course, Cai isn't the only coach accused of this, hello Karch, hahaha). The reason the team performed better in the Hong Kong leg compared to the Macau leg is because Lai Yawen, Cai's superior at the Chinese volleyball federation, is taking a more hands-on role as the assistant coach. Nominally, Cai is still the head coach, but Lai may have well made key decisions. Don't be fooled by the fact Lai is "only" an assistant coach sitting quiely behind Cai during a match. Her experience and role is critical in turning around the team performance in Hong Kong. She after all was the right hand man...eh, sorry I mean woman for Lang Ping. All Lang Ping had to do was to nod her head and give it a slight shake and Lai would understood what she meant and wanted. There was an almost telepathic understanding between them. Clearly she doesn't have that same level of camadarie with Cai, but her superior rank, better experience and (arguably) more competent understanding of the Chinese team than Cai allowed her to call the shots behind-the-scenes over Cai's head.

I agree, but unless the FIVB sets a rule that says you are not allowed to send a B team to the finals, what can you do?

Ebrar is way down there in KP despite being Turkey's offensive specialist. None of Turkey's rotating wheel of OH2 are particularly good passers, either - in fact, none of them are passing better than Ebrar. It also doesn't help that, although she's terminating very well, Vargas tends to error a ton. The dropoff from her KP to efficiency is huge.
