Another sweep for the Beach down in San Diego. Tritons served tougher and kept a lot of rallies alive. Briggs had some super human moments. Torwie's serve is back with a vengeance. But now Harlan and Varga missing way too many. Knipe set well. McRaven was great on Friday and ok tonight. Siapanis rounding into form. Godbold does some warmups but he has a knee brace on wonder what his stauts is DNP both matches. Last night Torwie and coach Knipe got back to back yellow cards from the main ref...the same one who blew 3 straight calls Knipe successfully challenged a few weeks ago. Interesting drama, maybe? None tonight. Hard fought sweep win after an easy sweep.

Best thing for Beach was Towrie's serve re-emerging. At 6'10", and since he launces about 5 feet from the end line, not surprising it comes and goes.
Harlan missed some basically easy shots down the line. SD did play better than Friday.
Beach could use Godbold back, especially for his BIC. McRaven has been a solid sub. Not really sure what is up with Bouchkov. both he and mcRaven sky pretty high.
the way Northridge has been playing and dialing in their serve, next week's matches should be super tough. Getting at least a 2 seed has become somewhat easier for Beach given the upsets, but no given, and sure Beach wants that one seed plus keep winning to put any potential at-large to leave no doubt headed to the BWCT. but next 3 weeks are going to a challenge, 4 of the 6 potential matches on the road. nice to pick up that road win, especially to grind thru some ugliness in that 1st set.

Did Godbold and Bouchkov get demoted? If so, why?

Did Godbold and Bouchkov get demoted? If so, why? Someone said Godbold injured and Bouchkov hasn't been blocking well recently =\

The eye test on Godbold says its a minor knee injury, he does some warmups and practice drills before games. Hoping its just precautionary and maybe we'll see him vs CSUN. The Bouchkov benching is a blessing in disguise, McRaven has had some stellar matches and now we have legit depth at middle blocker. Vs. Hawaii Bouchkov was missing swings more than blocks. To me he seemed too fired up and was pressing. The way McRaven is playing, he may have a hard time getting back in the rotation. DiAeris serves well, digs well for a blocker, and his block timing is really coming around. Has a good connection with Knipe too. Most important is we get Godbold back at near 100% give him some reps vs CSUN to prep for the huge battle v UCI to end the regular season. Maybe someone has some intel on his status.

NOrthridge looks to be be a tough battle. They've dialed in their serve from earlier in the year when it looked basically wild for lack of a better term.
Balanced and deep is this Beach team. they never look overwhelming, just grind opponents to death. and the best receiving team of the Beach teams since the TJ-Huus team. interesting that Knipe broke out a harder float serve to push back the defenders more. he hasn't tried that jump serve he showed at the beginning of the year in some time. B
Beach hasn't really played a lot on the road this year, so next 3 weeks will be their toughest tests on the road with North, Irvine, then who knows in the BWCT, although likely to play Hawaii or Irvine one more time in that tournament. so will be interesting to see how they handle all the NOrth-Irvine matches, but especially the two matches at Northridge and Irvine. the match @ Northridge will be their last match on a hardcourt vs. Teraflex this year.
aside from SB almost already locked in the 6 seed, the other seeds are in doubt. Kind of nuts to think a 3 seed could draw a potentially 0-10 UCSB team that would still not be a gimme and very capable in the tourney.
