This year's success was set up because of a controversial moment from last year's final. the Iowa v LSU semifinal viewership may have been elevated somewhat due to the controversial moment from last year's final. But this year's championship game would have been just as popular has Reese not acted childishly last year. Unless you were talking about some other controversial moment.

This is fantastic but here is what bugs me. Why in the world they have it early afternoon. Why do they have NFL football on Sunday afternoon?

Not all, but part of it could be that the women’s championship was available on ABC, ESPN, and ESPN+. The mens’s final was only on TBS. wasn't the men's final on TBS, TNT, and truTV? I didn't actually watch any of it but that's what various articles about the championship game list, and I seem to recall seeing the game listed on multiple channels when I was looking at the onscreen tv listings for that night.

I suppose, but when I checked schedules they usually only mentioned TBS. In any case, it wasn’t on over the air broadcasts. I would think the numbers would have been better if there was broadcast, I’m not sure of the exact schedule, but I heard that CBS alternates with Turner. Turner actually pays more than CBS in rights fees.

You're more confident of that than I. I think that last year's moment polarized fans of either player and galvanized Clark fans. The attention to that moment ramped up attention to the women's game for those who were previously casual fans at best. Of course, there's no way to know for sure. The test will be how many eyes continue to be on the game next year.

Well maybe....just maybe the fact that a ton of Americans were Day Drinking on Totality Day and didn't want to stay up for 9:20 pm eastcoast time(majority) start game AND having to work the next day was a factor.
I would wager that all had something to do with it.

She's been one of the biggest stars in women's basketball for 4 years. She's had Gatorade and Nike deals since NIL passed! From where I'm sitting, the NCAA had zero to do with making any of these women stars. Has she done TV commercials? Like I said, I may have missed them. Several over the years.

This was on Friday in the middle of a workday for the ladies. Correct? started at 2 pm (central) on a Sunday 1:00 PM for us and that is not a very watchable time. I don’t know why you’re arguing about it. It’s in the middle of a workday.

Yes and the only people who watch TNT are those looking for a replay of Shawshank Redemption or Wrestling. I watched on TNT.
