That was about as bad as I have seen Briggs & Varga play. Credit to UCI's service pressure (especially Henno & Grigoriev), but Briggs almost had as many receiving errors (2) as he had digs (3).
Anyone have any ideas why Godbold came in at opposite instead of OH? While Godbold can hit either side, Varga seems much more comfortable on the right side, even if he's a passing oppo. If Knipe wants Godbold on the right, I hope they use Harlan as the OH2 instead.

This win by UCI makes everything very interesting.
Beach needs to bounce back and quick.
There is a possible scenario where UCI gets the AQ by winning the Big West Championship Tournament and Hawaii takes second. Would Beach's weak schedule and a 3 lost season be shutout of the National Championship Tournament?

What would be shocking is if LBSU does not make the NCAA Tournament. It could occur, if LBSU is not in the BWC Tournament Championship Match. If LBSU loses tomorrow they are most likely going to be #2 seed. Hawaii will most likely be #3 seed and that’s makes it harder for Hawaii to win the BWCT. Most likely ? 🤔

Beach is in the NCAA tournament. Even if they lose in the Big West tournament they have the resume for the at large.

And unless they completely pull themselves out of at-large contention (which hasn't remotely happened), then the NCAA will most definitely get them in to fill those butts in the seats. It's not the sole factor but it certainly elevates their chances.

You are so close to UCI (20 miles) and UCLA (30 miles), plus Hawaii fans always travel. Add in all the club teams in the SoCal area you don't even have to worry about filling those seats as opposed to it being held at George Mason last year.

While that is true and I agree with you....my feeling is that LBSU hasn't removed themselves even closely out of at large contention. If anything....hosting the tournament too me just helps solidfy it.

Great job by UCI though I do expect LBSU to push back hard tomorrow. Regardless, the Big West is such a fun conference to watch as a fan.

Most of those seats sold to LBSU fans does that seem pretty accurate? If you notice I never said anything about selling tix. I mentioned having butts in the seats. No LBSU would certainly make the Mid just a wee but arid.

This outcome is not entirely surprising. Irvine has a strong team with a veteran setter. Is this shade? Or am I hearing what I want to hear? lol

Shewie must be loving his decision to join Irvine for his last year of eligibility. He's looking like the BW setter of the year, running a no-frills offense that lets his hitters get to work. Hilir is Hilir, but you can see how much confidence Shewie gives Flexen and D'Arcy. And his connection with his two middles who run different balls/routes is just great. I mean Shewie had no choice but to leave if he wanted to set his last year. But super happy for him and so is his old team. He is def no frills but consistent. He shows us why at one point in his young career at UH in 2020 before the pandemic that he was starting over last years NPOY Thelle at setter before Thelle emerged as the one . the real reason he left was that he wanted to grow out his beard and was tired of Charlie's clean shaven rule lol
