Beach more solid passing.
Well until up 24-21. Godbold with 2 bad swings and a poor reception.
but makes it up with an ace to win set 1 27-25
nice response from Beach. serving a bit more aggressive.
Irvine still looks solid. both teams with high quality shots
Beach is still gonna need to figure out out to get Irvine out of system more if they want to win.

FLexan serving worse tonight. Varga serving much better and playing better
and that's the difference. If Irvine could actually get serves in they might be able to stay in this match. Just a lot of wild serves for Irvine.
Godbold really needs to get in a rhythm for the BWCT. Not sure Beach is better yet with Golbold in there. Needs more swings after so much time off likely.
one thing Irvine has done both nights, Briggs just can't get digs.
seems with Heno, he gets blockers jumping early. part that windup, his swings always seem a fraction delayed, and he gets so many balls thru. Briggs never gets a chance to dig Heno

UCI is awful tonight.
But like I said, Coach Knipe won't let you get him twice.

Irvine serving was just horrendous, like they just lost it from last night. Basically the difference. They get just 6 or 7 of those in, and who knows.
Hard team to gauge.
For Beach, good to see Varga rebound, Godbold get swings, and solid serving. They are gonna get challenged again, whether Irvine again, or Hawaii, or GCU, or UCLA, or Penn State of the MIVA winner, and will have to respond during a match when things are off, better than they did last night.
I think with the win, I don't see how Beach does not get at least an at-large.
a 5 loss GCU without a top 5 win at this point or a 6 loss Hawaii won't be in over a 3 loss Beach or a 5 loss UCLA.
It's UCLA & Beach. GCU & Hawaii if they don't win their tournies, have to hope Beach and UCLA win theirs.
with Hawaii losing their 6th match tonight, so they'd be at 7 losses, could make that last at-large more interesting. Irvine would be at 10 losses.
pretty much any team aside from Beach & UCLA should plan on winning their conference tourney to be safe.

Beach Sweep! Punched the Nerds right back. Henno with a sub par game. UCI choked way too many serves must have used up their mojo last night. Henno looked abysmal from the service line.
Beach is vulnerable when they are flat as a team, and can also whack anyone they want to. Getting back Godbolds strong arm is huge, and it looks like Knipe will liberally rotate Harlan in for different looks and better passing.

nah, avg record was 2,545 in 2019 that has the NCAAs factored in. might be similar with this year with or once the NCAAs factored in. but I do think it prob was still a bit higher in 2019, before the NCAAs, which like this year had the two Hawaii home games. the conf avg that year was 2550.
