2024 BWT Champion Beach! Godbold is back lookout. His lethal arm swing is the final ingredient that we've missed for over a month, he and Varga are very complimentary then throw in Sotiris who dices and jackknifes his way through blocks then throws down some thunder, that is the Beach I've been looking for in sets 3 and 4. Aidan getting very good passes and mixing up the sets pretty well. Sotiris on fire right now seems to be very bouncy the last few weeks. Aces and blocks got UCI all out of whack. Only negative is McRaven had a bunch of float serve errors, and Lazar got in for a quick minute so who knows. Contained Henno for the most part, but he still is dangerous even in contain mode. Had to tool the block for many of his kills. No doubt about it type of win. GO BEACH!!!

Harlan had his worst serve sub / rotation back there of the year. He cleaned that up later in match. 2nd set the receiving went south. was ugly and Irvine pounced. and yeah both McRaven and Knipe missing float serves, have to clean that up but #1 this weekend was the old Godbold from Jan and Feb was back, only with a rocket serve added he was ripping it. and Siapanis all around play and court sense has become tremendous. was gettig to a lot of balls tonight. might be best backrow OH there is, even if he's not the level of Henno or Pasteur offensively still might see Bouchkov have to come in at some point

Watching the match in person, I honestly don’t think Irvine is a serious candidate to win it all. Just too much holes in the game. They are very fortunate to have a player such as Henno to carry them. Everyone else on the team are just average players(with the exception of Henno and Power]. Flexen and D’Arcy are hyped as big time offensive weapons but they get yanked and subbed repeatedly due to poor play. Sheward was all over the place with his setting this evening and only one middle was anything close to being productive. They did lose 10 matches this season so they are definitely a hot and cold team.
LBSU, UCLA and GCU are my favorites to win it.

Yes, UCI is completely dependent on a single player to remain competitive, no denial there. But Henno's good enough to live up to that. If he's dialed in, thats all UCI needs, they're in it to win. Power and Sheward continue to enable Henno to play at his best, which is all they really need to do. (Sheward had a bad night, but over the season he has been one of the most, if not the most consistent setter in the league). As for the Darcy/Flexen situation, they really do need to start Tangutur. Flexen/Darcy can fight it out for the start at Opposite, but against high level serving teams Flexen gets Aced right off the court. Literally. The one high point for Hawaii vs UCI (for Hawaii fans) was watching Kurt literally serve Flexen into the bench. It puts the offensive burden onto Henno with no backup, but if Henno's not at full strength UCI doesn't have a chance anyways, so it's barely even a risk. I'm hoping for seeds to go 1) LBSU, 2) UCLA, 3) UCI, 4) GCU. Partially to guarantee it's not just rematches of the conference finals. I don't know if that's something the committee considers but they should.

Those out of system sets from Knipe are soooo awkward.. his hand positioning is so strange then he just chucks it high to the outside.. hard to believe he’s a coaches son with the worst form I’ve ever seen.. Knipe was a MB, he doesn't teach setting. they need Hildebrand back on staff Andy Read is and always has been the primary setter coach, even when Hildebrand was there (of course, he coached Hildebrand as well.)

Woo hoo! Congratulations to the Beach for winning the BWT Championship!
I didn't see one second of the match but it looks like the Beach's defense contained Henno while Godbold went off offensively and Siapanis played a great all-around game.
I hope that both UCI and LBSU have safe travels back to the continent and show out in the NCAA tournament.
