Maybe one day someone like this could come up w/ true rankings. That actually make sense? Not the word of mouth rankings or social media rankings true analysis from someone who’s played the game or plays the game just a thought, I see rankings by prep volleyball and prepdig and go watch a kid they have ranked and lshake my head because it’s so far off!! But the voice of the club sure does like the player!! None of John Dunning, John Cook or Kelly Sheffield ever played volleyball. I guess they've been ok at spotting talent

Lol! I have sources, interested where you got your info: Interview with John Cook volleybrains.com/john-cook/ - "So for me, I grew up in California, Southern California, I did not play volleyball. I was actually becoming a teacher, and was coaching high school football(American Football)." UW alumni magazine article on Kelly Sheffield : onwisconsin.uwalumni.com/the-comeback-coach. "This may come as a surprise: Kelly Sheffield, the winningest volleyball coach in UW history, has never played the game himself. While Sheffield may never have stared an opponent in the eyes through the weave of a net, he makes up for it with more than 30 years of an arguably more valuable perspective."

Cook played volleyball. He was mainly a beach player. He would occasionally show up for indoor tournaments and play with guys like Mark Warner and Duncan McFarland. Cook was not a superstar but he was a good supporting cast on the team. Laurel Brassey would also play with them. Sometimes we beat them in pool play but when the playoffs arrived the more than supporting cast would show up and we were toast.

Lol! As a badger fan, show me the evidence that either played. It is well known that Sheffield didn't. He was trained in the Munciana coaching tradition after being a runner. A little less well known that Cook didn't in any organized fashion, largely because he became prominent in a time when people didn't really know the backgrounds of coaches.

Don't get me started on Russ Rose.

Who’s hiring?

Could care less about the coaching analysis this is more about the publications out here making money by pandering to the inexperienced parent who has no clue.
The coaching will take care of itself, I think we’re now in a period of volleyball where there’s a slow shift to a more equal playing field. The schools are taking notice and investing in vball programs to where your blue bloods are going to have to work harder to get and maintain their recruiting superiority and winning ways.

He did play with a group of individuals that were quite talented (Olympic caliber). Mark Warner (if anyone knew him) was very particular about who played for him in a tournament. You had to have some skills to play for him. He would never ask me to play on his team though I thought I had some skills (we all know how that goes). Back in those days there were not as many organized opportunities for men to play volleyball so it was a different era. Though many years have passed I think he may have had the skills to play college ball if he put in the effort. It was his marriage to a volleyball player that made him pursue the sport beginning at club ball with I think the San Diego Volleyball Club (or perhaps Epic).
With the lack of internet in those days my only evidence is that my eyes saw him play and he could hold his own on the court with some very high caliber volleyball players.

Well, I'm not sure why everyone thinks this guy is a guru, but it sure seems to fit the self-anointed "influencer" culture we're living in:

He spends all day on June 14 talking about his silly “rankings“ on youtube and then on June 15 has a story about the Wisconsin commit noone has heard of and says ”this is why rankings don’t matter“
He’s a joke.

It used to be a South Dakota/midwest based volleyball media page, where they’d point out rising stars in the state and do camps. He switched the whole idea into “VB Adrenaline” and seemingly wants to be a main volleyball media outlet. Unfortunately for him, his tweets are fairly hypocritical when talking about things such as rankings. Terrible grammar and wording in his tweets… comical most of the time.
