These are the same people who call it "right to work" when they try to make unions illegal. Make unions illegal? Right to work simply means that an employee isn't REQUIRED to be in a union in order to work.

Right to work simply means that an employee isn't REQUIRED to be in a union in order to work. It certainly doesn't make unions illegal, but "required to be in a union in order to work" is misleading wording, since once a union is in place in a business, anybody whose job falls under the union will get the benefits of a collective bargaining agreement. So, in effect, right-to-work gives people the benefits of a union without paying union dues. It's pretty well known the purpose of right-to-work laws is to weaken unions.

Right-to-work also means being able to work without a union extracting union 'dues' which they then overwhelmingly use to contribute to a political party you don't support.

Could even see it passing the House. But they obviously know Biden would veto, so wonder if they’ll wait to see what happens with the election.

Such calls to drop all sports have existed in the past at many schools. Now at many schools, they'll have a ring of seriousness not easily dismissed.

"Where will they find the money to pay the athletes?" is pretty funny when the author is talking about *Miami.*

Think they’re waiting for the election to see who wins.
As much as I think this bill should become law, to avoid a veto from Biden would mean some other far more shall we say reaching circumstances would then have to be true. Best leave it there, on that topic.

Think they’re waiting for the election to see who wins. That makes no sense. If it doesn't get passed by January, it dies.

If it’s a thing of that bills from a previous congress don’t carry over to the next congress, I don’t see why that would be much of an obstacle if they get a political environment where it can pass. Just restart it from committee.

Just restart it from committee. If they had the votes to pass it, they would vote on it. If it doesn't make it out of Congress, it would have to be reintroduced next year so they clearly aren't waiting to see who wins the election in November.

Apparently the bill isn't intended to stand on it's own. It's written, it's out there, they've talked about it, and they will try to attach it to a larger bill at some point. Presumable a college sports bill, but I guess it could be attached to the Dept of Labor budget or something.
Thing is, the democrats presumably won't support any bill that hurts potential union membership, so if the house passes a bill with this in it, it either dies in the senate or there needs to be something in it that the democrats want enough to make it worth their while to upset Union leaders.
If someone had reported that it might take until after the election, if I had to guess how to connect those dots, a couple schools could offer outgoing senators guest lecturer or even admin positions, which isn't uncommon, or a booster offers a position on a corporate board, but wink, wink "pass that bill before you leave." And they'd still have to get Schumer to put it on the floor so IDK.

Or they could just line up the Lamborghinis for them as they walk into the Capitol, that and a seven figure NIL deal.

And they'd still have to get Schumer to put it on the floor so IDK. Yeah, having a Senate majority leader from a state that has basically no relevant big time college athletics can't be good for this bill.
