Episode 233, College Volleyball Weekly, Men's Top 20, Special Q&A Episode, 5/20/24The CVW Coaching Panel wanted to get this Q&A Episode together because it's what our listeners wanted! Today we explore the expansion of the MIVA, formation of the GLVC, new teams and Division 1 & 2 expansion. Naturally, we flow into the rise of the portal and how coaches/teams view some of the different perspectives of it's availability to the athletes. Sprinkled in there are questions about ball pressure, "poachable players," favorite venues to play in and some friendly banter. Keep in mind we tangent every once in a while! iTunes: ow.ly/qJxi50RO7ut Spotify: ow.ly/7IYG50RO7sY Podbean: ow.ly/EbXk50RNYjW YouTube:

robonthemic, I posted this on another thread regarding the possibility of a new B1G Men's VB Conference. Any thoughts? I have a couple of questions before going into my wild hypothetical... 1) Is 6 the minimum number of teams required for a conference to receive an auto bid? 2) If a new B1G MVB conference is formed containing the 4 previously mentioned, plus two others (assuming answer to #1 is yes), does this new B1G MVB conference have to be in existence for 3 years before receiving an auto bid (just like the SIAC this year and the NEC next year)? If the answer to 1 is yes and to 2 is no, then maybe a B1G conference with UCLA, USC, Stanford, PSU, OSU, and one other current MIVA team could be formed as a way to expand the tourney with the addition of this new conference. MPSF will still have 6 teams since Menlo and Vanguard are joining in 2025. EIVA will still have 6 teams since Sacred Heart is rejoining in 2025. MIVA will have 7 teams since they currently have 9 teams and would lose OSU plus one other. The travel between coasts would not have to be every other week. Non-con matches are interspersed within in conference play already anyways, so these league matches can be on one of the normally scheduled west coast or east coast swings. Those road swings will be hard as hell, but if successful, would be good for SOS, RPI, and KPI, and we all know by now that those are so very important come tourney time. Plus, this will do away with those back-to-back matches at one team's home gym. Each team would play at each other's gym every year, at least for this new conference. Just an out-of-the-box thought for something down the road. Maybe 6 or 7 years from now, with continuing rise in popularity of the sport at the high school/club level (hopefully with a big boost post-Paris 2024 and pre-Los Angeles 2028), something like this could happen?. But by then, there will probably be another power 5 conference shakeup and re-alignment.

ccfan24, I'll bounce it off the guys, however one of the concerns is that the NCAA could go bankrupt within the few years with the big football schools forming a football conference, which could create a ripple effect for other revenue generating sports (Jay and Dan were talking about it in the episode). I'm wondering what impact that will have on ALL Olympic sports since the revenue for those sports programs pretty much subsidize those Olympic sports. Current Conferences w/ Autoberths Big West Conference Carolinas EIVA MIVA MPSF SIAC NEC (for 2025) Coming up... ECC GLVC (Dan mentioned an EEC but I wasn't sure)

I'm so grateful for their willingness to share (what they can since at times, NCAA regs prevent them from sharing everything). These guys are honorable and it is something that I value and respect!

Hi Rob, Any chance on adding a MPSF coach to your pod cast for next season? Like maybe coach Werle, Kosty or Winder?

Hi Rob, Any chance on adding a MPSF coach to your pod cast for next season? Like maybe coach Werle, Kosty or Winder? Every year I ask at least one coach in the MPSF and I've been unsuccessful. When Riley was at CUI he considered it, but then unexpectedly there was a coaching change. Kosty had NCAA Committee responsibilities 2 years ago when I asked, and Jeff (USC) has a lot on his plate with little ones. I thought I had a chance at Werle this year on one of the first episodes of 2024 but I think it got too busy. I don't even think of asking Speraw because 1) USA (during the year he's on constant calls with all the athletes, assistants, etc), 2) his commute from South OC to LA, 3) First Point responsibilities, and family. It's not to say I won't ask them again, but I was going to wait until the Fall to see what pans out over the next few months. Jon Winder (PEP) is a good option, and Chris Seiffert (CUI) has been elevated to Head Coach. Not sure it it's in Shawn's wheelhouse but if he (or any MPSF Coach) was interested I'd take'em! Then of course, there are the new MPSF programs' coaches at Menlo College and Vanguard (Brian Rofer)!
