This is cool! Where do you get all the baseline videos from? Plum set-by-set.
Set 1. She's gotta put that away. Set 2. She's late
Set 3. Bad hitting error Set 4. Bad footwork Set 5. High ball she absolutely detonates lol Set 6. Good kill. Set 7. Impossible OOS Set 8. Tough OOS ball, decent swing. Good block defense by the Dutch Set 9. Pipe hit she's gotta put in play. Set 10. Transition OOS. Seam closes on her and gets roofed. Needs to score here. Set 11. OOS, 9m set distance, tough but she needs to get her feet to the ball and take a crack here, if she wants to be that next level player.
Set 12. Impossibly low and inside bic set. She is half a step behind tempo (assuming it's a 3rd step tempo), but still lol. Set 13. Tough inside OOS set by JWO. I don't particularly like the decision to swipe out of the court there by Plum. Those are the plays only she can better the ball and has to do better on, even if tough. Set 14. Great in-system set and kill. Set 15. She's dreadfully caught inside but manages to win the point with a power tip. Set 16. Bail out swing. No fault of anyone (besides her own because I think she's the one who muffed that serve receive) Set 17. Block touch Set 18. Best example of her being very uncomfortable with the speed Set 19. OOS set goes wide. She has to go inside out which is why she two hand tips it. Elite arm swings would still be able to take a crack at it, but she doesn't have that (yet?).
I love this cuz in the past VT would have just blamed LC but now that most of yโall are on the bandwagon ๐ซฃ shouldn't that be CHEESEHEAD JESUS?

S3 15-11: I love how Plummer and the Dutch are just booping the ball back and forth and then Donna comes in and is like, "NOPE, DONE!" and slams it down. Are these posts for you? Iโm not sure if I get the point? I find them entertaining, so they are for me too. ๐

This is a good breakdown. I agree with your assessments for the most part. I did not conclude from watching this that the setting was the issue.

The Plummer hate is wild. She was the only player not getting quality sets from LC last night... Does she need to do more with those and be better... yes! But it was just one match, we need to see more of her than one match. What did we learn about LC? Ya'll need to chill a bit. This isn't an argument to start her over Larson either... we need to evaluate what she will do, this year, with this team. She could be a difference maker at some point. True of a few others left behind by Karch Kiraly also. They, too, could be difference makers at some point. Third week of competition. Whatโs changed? Time to stand up and deliver. The accolades are there. The performances, regardless of which setter or opponent, are not. Yes, we want KP to succeed! She made the Olympic roster and has been an alternate already. Now go show the world who you really are and what you really can do! Karch-squared is ready to launch: most decorated NCAA indoor, Olympic, and ultimately beach player. Get some, KP!!

I said the sets she got were lower quality, not that the setting was an issue. You can admit she looks uncomfortable with the tempo (or something, who knows) AND she got a tough deal with the sets that she got. 5/19 sets she got were incredibly difficult to do something with (7, 8, 12, 13, 19). 5/19 she was just uncomfortable and late to (1, 2, 3, 4, 18). The rest some combination of bail-out swings, good defense by the dutch, etc.

You can't expect that every set is going to be ideal. Part of your job as an outside is to figure out a way to get kills on less-than-perfect sets and out-of-system balls. Even if the issue was the setter, and it's not, I'd still rather use an outside that the setter actually is comfortable with rather than trying to force a connection that just isn't there.
