So let me get this straight.... in the last year the volleyball community has lost the Pac-12, Rich Kern, and Pablo, while here on volleytalk the commentary that gets the most action are the pointless arguments between Texas and Nebraska fans.... Throw Hawaii and Penn State in the mix and you have just described the last 25 years of VT....

Well my Monday's are ruined... And my weekends are salvaged. It's a tough tradeoff....

I just saw this.
A standing ovation to BOFA. I too had hoped the NCAA would see past their own unquestioned devotion to the RPI, but I have also given up on it. You have enriched our volleyball lives for years and we are all indebted to you. Enjoy your rest and very best of luck to your successor. Much is expected.

Well my Monday's are ruined... And my weekends are salvaged. It's a tough tradeoff.... No, my Monday's are not your responsibility. You have served the volleyball community well for a long time and I believe that we all thank you for it. You deserve a next act. Still, this feels a bit like when Forrest Gump stopped running, and his followers were like "Now, what are we supposed to do?!?"

You never know what you're going to get. Could be something nasty.

A month ago I paid for another year of RichKern. Now it is no more? I check Pablo at least twice a week maybe more often. What is the story on RichKern? Here's the VT thread where Rich posted the details: Thanks!

Who knows what I'll end up doing. Sometimes I foresee myself as the Will Farrell character in Wedding Crashers who went from crashing weddings to crashing funerals. I'd love to create a good system for doing wrestling rankings, but data is so hard to come by. The issue in wrestling is that tournament quality relies heavily on good seeding, and the procedures they use for seeding, while objective, are not always all that good. I'd love to see tournaments using Pablo Wrestling rankings for their seeding. The NCAA, of course, wouldn't do it, but you could see it happening at the high school level (in states where the HSAA cares about wrestling - aka not Indiana) Actually, my focus for the last year or so has been on analyzing tournament setups to see what are the most effective approaches. I don't have much to say about volleyball (although I think I reference that it was the MEAC or the SWAC that used to do a double-elimination conference tournament), and I spend a lot of time talking wrestling tournaments, just because they bring in a lot of variety. I also do a little analysis of basketball tournaments. Here's my youtube playlist of tournament analyses. I've got a set of 3 videos that I am working on now to add to it. youtube.com/playlist?list=PLgOpfJcamekCAmlF_AGTKjRTCPeQAS7od&si=c5izZ47A602AmIZ1

These are the end times, aren't they? Rich, Pablo... what next? Narrator: Tawa was next.

Would it be correct to say - If Rich.Kern doesn't have a successful transition to someone else after 2025, Pablo isn't going to continue? That we really need both transitions to work.

It seems like this is currently how the database and Pablo system is constructed, but I wouldn't think it would be too difficult to pull scores from the NCAA website instead?

Any chance your successor could also take over, and operate, Rich Kern's site? Do you even have any idea of how much time that takes to compile all those results? I asked to apply Pablo for the JuCos about 20+ years ago and was told it would take as much time as for all the DI schools.

I asked to apply Pablo for the JuCos about 20+ years ago and was told it would take as much time as for all the DI schools. 20+ years ago, there was a helluva lot less information collected and displayed on the internet. I’m not gonna say it would be trivial/easy, but with the huge increase in published results, it *might* be.
