Indeed he was. Which of his TV shows (2) did you like best.

I don't think I appreciated Bob Newhart until I was older (30+ years old). Then, when I got to be older, I really really loved Bob Newhart's comedy routines -- much more than his shows. I hardly watched The Bob Newhart Show in the 1970s where he played a psychiatrist named Bob Hartley who was married to Suzanne Pleshette (...admit it...she was way above his league). I watched almost all of Newhart where he managed an inn with his wife Mary Frann (...also way above his league). I didn't like it so much because the secondary characters were stupid.
I loved him best when he appeared as a guest star in other TV shows like The Big Bang Theory or as a guest in TV talk shows (e.g., The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson). Also, I love his stand-up. Those were the best.

Which secondary character did you think was stupid? Daryl? Other brother Daryl?
I guess it doesn't matter. It was all just a dream.

I loved both of his shows, Newhart more so. Amazing comedian.

An all time great. He and Rickles were best friends, I guess opposites do attract. The Newhart ending with Suzanne Pleshette was a classic.
