Alright, the opening match no doubt we are most interested in at the Paris Olympics, US vs China. What are your predictions? On who will win? The starting rosters and any...surprises?
Like I said in the other thread, I would place my bet on US winning. The record since 2008 has the US prevailing over China in the Olympic preliminaries, so the US does enjoy a historical advantage. That being said, I'm not ruling out a China upset win over the US, Lai Yawen as the assistant coach has plenty of Olympic experience, that may compensate for the incompetence of Cai Bin. We'll see. What do you think?

Both teams seem messy. Toss up.. China is soooo much better in the middle but USA is better passing team. Can USA serve better than they have all year?

I also know folks don't like Karch, but he has more experience in the Olympics and is a better coach in comparison to Cai Bin.

I know a lot of people don't like Cat Bin but it's not like Karch has the ability to deploy plan B. Do either coach really effect the outcome in this case?

What's the point to their job if they have no impact on the outcome? Maybe the players should just coach themselves if the coach is redundant, hahaha.

Of course, its up to Cai Bin to change that view. He has disappointed Chinese fans with his...shall we say....questionable and headscratching decisions in matches and roster in the past. The Olympics is his last chance to turn this around and finally deliver an...acceptable result for the Chinese fans.

Anyone here a little afraid if they make a prediction either way they might somehow jinx the US? I'm not the superstitious type personally, but I don't know about others here...

Nobody wants to say the quiet part out loud … We all think we could go anywhere from 0-fer (okay probably not really) to winning it all (okay maybe bronze). You just never know what you’re gonna get. For the tournament .. and for each match.

If rumors are true we might finally see Zhu playing in the opposite side.
Looks like starting OHs will be Wu and LYY while Zhu will come from the bench and play OH or Opp.
My prediction is USA in 4

Wonder if the US are feeling good about themselves right now or are the players trembling in fear of their first match...

After the disappointment after high expectations in the Tokyo Olympics, Coach Cai Bin and several players seem to be united in trying to lower expectations and subsequently lower the amount of pressure. In an interview on CCTV, Zhu Ting lowered expectations about herself and her team's goals. Translated: "Now I am older and have more injuries. When I was young, I definitely didn't have any problems with injuries. I just played...Of course I want to participate in the Olympics in a particularly good state or the best state, and the goal is to achieve the best results." Zhu Ting has reportedly recovered from her waist injury that occurred near the end of the VNL.
