Good luck to anyone running anchor against Lyle’s in the 4X100. He looked uncomfortable in prelims and semi’s. He looked like he was going extra hard before the race to fight the lack of confidence and pysch himself up. He has a normal flare of confidence, it felt like was I watching him fight self doubt.
He feeds off his confidence, now it’s sky high.

The British commentators at the world feed are way better than the Americans from NBC. Americans are way too chatty.

Yeah. I mean, I thought Thompson won too, but I'm not calling the race, lol. I was actually a bit confused when Noah started celebrating before they officially announced it, holding up his name. It wasn't until I saw the replay that I realized how incredibly fast he closed. I actually thought Lyles won watching live but that’s because I was focused on him but even then it was too close to call. 15m to go I thought it was too far out of reach but he’s the best closer in the business. You just couldn’t tell if he ran out of runway till the replay. Okay, that makes sense if you were watching him the whole way. I just wanted any of the Americans to win, so I was focused on Thompson and Kerley (I thought it was too close to call in real time). It looks like Lyles was in last place as late as the 50-meter mark, so I just didn't pick up that he was closing fast.

One thing I love about Lyles is how he's so unapologetically himself. He makes fun of the NBA for calling its winners the "world champions," which he can do because he's a world champion (and now Olympic champion) himself. I don't even really agree with his take on the NBA (it is the top basketball league in the world, after all), but it was objectively funny. He's also a huge nerd that plays Yu-Gi-Oh and Magic: The Gathering. Like he and fellow sprinter Joseph Fahnbulleh didn't even care when their conversation about Magic was interrupted by Tara Davis calling them nerds.

I read an article this morning about which runner was leading at every meter from 1-100. Lyles was only ahead at 100. Not even leading at 99m!

Wow, the broadcasters said that Sifan Hassan is attempting a 5K/10K/marathon triple. Forget medaling--that is crazy to even attempt.

Hassan at least got the bronze medal. Edit: Kipyegon got DQ'd, so Hassan gets silver, and Italy gets the bronze. I'm not totally sure this will hold up, as it really looked like the Ethiopian runner was the one who created the issue with Kipyegon. I'm sure that Kenya will appeal the decision, and then we'll see what happens. Final edit: As I expected, Kipyegon had her silver medal restored after Kenya's successful appeal. Congrats to the medalists.

It has already happened that a few hours later the appeal was accepted -- it happened to an Italian some 20 30 years ago, too (Salvatore Antibo).
