Tournament Bids by Conference & Conference Rank:
Bubble Analysis: Note, RPI is only one portion. I look at RPI last, not first. When I list Big Wins, the out of conference is preferred, especially on the road/neutral. At this point of the season, teams on a roll get a better look. Big East/BigWest/WCC 3rd & ACC/SEC 3-5 place teams are competing against each other - someone's gonna get left out after conf. tournaments. Just a note about Marquette & Ball State, they are on a winning streaks, but there just was not a signature out of conference performance. I'll take good wins over bad losses anyday, especially if a team played some tough schedule/opponents (and RPI is not necessarily an indication of a tough schedule). To have one bad loss is to be human, to have 2 is tournament-killing. I moved the WAC way down in conference rank - ya gotta have somebody step up and beat Hawaii at your home court - c'mon.
Also, the ACC is so hard to determine who gets in. IMO, they only deserve 4 teams after beating up on the east coast, the 2nd-9th place are almost indistinguishable, plus the 1st place team Duke has lots of wins, but nothing really noteworthy. I can see the NCAA giving the ACC anywhere from 4-6 bids.
One last note: There's no WHINING in volleyball! Everyone of these bubble teams or teams close to the bubble had chances to win a big game at home, on the road, etc. against top teams or other bubble teams AND THEY DIDN'T GET IT DONE.
Ball State, Marquette, SMU, Georgia Tech, Auburn are the last 5 teams out.
Ole Miss, New Mexico, Creighton are the last 3 teams in. Ole Miss needs quality wins coming in.
