Well I checked both UF's and Tenn's sites and neither had an article on this match individually (both had it paired in articles with their other weekend match) so i felt I would write up a little pregame composition: A Rivalry For Supremecy By: A-Mac's Army Gainesville, FLA We all know the story: Florida volleyball has dominates the SEC for over a decade and a half...but one team will do whatever it takes to stop the streak of 15 consecutive UF titles. That team is Tennessee. In 2004, Tennessee stunned the Gator nation by taking care of Florida in five games twice in a matter of a few days and capturing a SEC Tournament Title on Florida's court. As 2004 saw the rise of the Lady Vols, 2005 saw them even more anxious and wanting more success against the conference powerhouse. In the last five meetings Tennesssee has won 3 to Florida's 2, and out of the three in Gainesville, Tennessee has taken 2/3. Florida is a much different team than last year with the graduating of Jane Collymore and Rachel Engle but it might not be a bad thing as freshman Elyse Cusack has done a nice job taking over for Rachel, and the hitting has seen more spreading out with the loss of All-American Collymore. Cusack just returned from an injury and it is unclear at what percent she is at when she steps on the court this afternoon to take on the Lady Vols. Aside from the talent on the floor, UF is hoping to gain some backup from the Gator Nation in The House Of Horrors. Other intangibles for today's match are that it is a UF player's birthday and I know that a win versus Tennessee would be the best present she could think of and also UF's athletic teams are undefeated this weekend...can the volleyball team keep the streak alive? We'll find out today at 1 PM when the Vols take on the Gators in the Stephen C. O'Connell Center. The Rivaly Record...since I been here: Oct. 22nd 2004 @ Tenn.: UF (3-1) Nov. 14th 2004 @ UF: Tenn. (3-2) Nov. 21st 2004 @ UF (SEC Tournament): Tenn. (3-2) Oct. 7th 2005 @ UF: UF (3-0) Oct. 30th 2005 @ Tenn.: Tenn (3-2) Gametracker: javascript: window.open('http://livestats.gatorzone.collegesports.com/livestats/data/w-volley/441689/', 'wvolleyGameTracker', 'toolbar=no,width=780,height=540'); void(''); Game audio: www.am850.com/am850.asx*Note sometimes volleyball audio is schedule but you get soccer instead

Florida up 2-0. 30-22, 30-16. Cusack makes a difference for this team. Marcie, Amber, Kristina J. & Angie, all doing well. Tennessee's starters are all getting plenty of splinters on the bench...not playing well anywhere in the game.

Florida sweeps the Vols...30-22, 30-16, 30-20. I'm sure Gatorvball will give us a synopsis of the game when he gets home.

This thread sure was dead. Glad to see Florida come out strong after struggling against Kentucky.

The Lunatics were there as I predicted. We were missing some WiseGuys but it didn't matter as the team made sure to give the quieter fans something to cheer about with the sweep.

Well, nice to win, but that isn't the Tennessee we'll see up in Knoxville. Rob Patrick basically gave up midway through game 2 as Fautsch, Stoyanova and Blum and Noble were all benched and stayed bench for a lot of the rest of the match. That said, even when they were in, they did nothing. Florida was totally dominant in every facet of the game. MVP, and there are many to choose from, was Elyse Cusack. My word she was digging up everything and I'm looking at the stats and there's no way she only got 14. She easily had 20, not to mention she passed so well and her block coverage was ridiculous. She was flying everywhere. You can just see the difference she makes. Everyone is better because of her. McCray will be the SEC player of the week as she had another outstanding effort. The passing was great all day long so Angie had options and she spread the ball around beautifully, as well as killing many balls on her own. The 2 plays of the match were Angie stuffing Blum twice on overpasses. Some pretty good rallies, but the level of play on UT's side of the net was not very good. They pretty much threw out the entire bench as the starters got lots of time on that bench, but we're used to that from Rob. Kelsey and KJ were dominant in the middle as well. Not many blocks, but offensively, they were on fire. Well, pretty much all the Gators were. I expect a much tougher match in Knoxville, cause Rob won't give up and pull his starters like he did today.

Is Rob Patrick just a big baby or something? I don't get why he would pull his starters like that - what does that teach his team?

If you remember back to last year with "controversy" it was kind of like the same thing. And like Gator said, when we head up to Tennessee he will give the starters more time.

According to the box score Fautsch, Stoyanova, Blum and Noble played in all three games. Did he start them each game and then pull them when they weren't getting the job done?

Blum sat most of game 2. I know she normally doesn't play back row other than serving, but she missed several rotations in the front row. There was one time where she was set to go back in and Patrick pulled her back. Stoyanova was pulled in game 1 when her passing was off and she sat for long stretches in all 3 games. Berg came on for Noble several times, I guess to provide a bigger block, cause the Gators were just hitting over Noble when she was in the front row. Fautsch seemed to play the most, but was also benched several times. It was a constant rotation of players, it was really hard to keep track of who was on the floor for them at times.

There were 3 pitiful looking guys sitting near you with a Tennessee flag draped over the railing. Was that them? A-Mac, I think you made up for any missing Wise Guys.

Do you think this was another Tennessee plot to lull the Gators into a false sense of security? Or are they really that bad....

well 23 hours later... I just got back home. -Elyse Cusack is amazing. I can see why her being out recently made such a huge difference. -The officiating was terrible going both ways. Florida lost a point on one of the worst calls i have ever seen, when a serve that was at least two feet in was ruled out. Tennessee also was jobbed on some ridiculously bad calls (including a ball hit clearly inside the antenna being ruled outside the antenna, and a CLEAR pancake dig being ruled a UF point)... I didnt really affect the game much since Florida dominated so much. -The Swamp and the O-dome are both really nice. -The Florida fans were (mostly) very nice. They seemed to know a fair amount about volleyball, and unlike Tom they were able to recognize a bad call, both against the gators AND for the gators... At the end of the game a lot of the students we were sitting near gave us props on driving all the way to the game, as did a fair number of "old people" (non students) on the way out... We shook Mary Wise's hand at the end and she gave us props for coming all the way down, and seemed very nice, allthough that might because we are a lot more polite on the road than we are at home. I'm not sure she is going to go in for much hand shaking after the game in Stokley . -Everybody at UF seems to have mopeds / motor scooters. I've never seen more than maybe one or two at any other campus I've been to, but UF has them everywhere. -I don't have any kind of analysis to post. To my untrained eye Florida seemed to do pretty much everything better. Florida brought their A game, and it seemed like we didn't play nearly as well as we could have. I've seen us play a lot better and I'm confident that coach Patrick will get things taken care of by the rematch in knoxville (near the end of the season)... You also can't discount the possibility that all of this is sneaky Rob Patrick setting up another "AMBUSH!" for Mary Wise... I'd still make the trip again, even with the result. It's always exciting to go support the team in a big game on the road. Besides, i got a free t-shirt out of it...

Ok, so we know how the game ended up, but lets talk about the atmosphere........ First of all, what a slap in the face to all of the UF students!!! How could you possibly let three "pitiful" looking guys come into your own house and take over the whole front row of the section???!! There were only three of us.... Its hard to convince people to come ride with me for 16 hours to go see a volleyball game, but...... and i say this with tons and tons of confidence and even support from many gator fans who talked to us after the game, including what seemed to be someone important like the AD or something....... The three of us... dominated the UF student section!! First of all, we were louder (we were outnumbered by like 50).. Second, the only cheers the section could come up with was repeats of what we had said a couple minutes earlier (lame) Last, but certainly not least.... A Mac has got nothing!!!! 3 pitiful guys that drove 8 hours?? uhh, how about two pitiful guys that walked like five minutes (pathetic).... Do you know what the lamest thing in sports is??/ When people at other schools take cheers that were created specifically at another school and totally rip them off..... A mac, if you are so "feared" by our players, why cant you be a little more creative?? You cant come up with anything better than what we do? (sad) All in all, yes, The gators won, but........ Dont diss on the three guys who left Sunday Morning at 1 am, got there at 10, and literally showed up your "home" crowd..................
