FWIW, many times when watching a UH match on TV, I feel similarly to what aaronic is saying. I was at the match tonight, and when I am at the game, I am not as critical of the wahine. They did not play well at times, but very few teams play perfectly all the time. I hope aaronic is able to attend a few games in person and see if he still feels as critical. BTW, what's up with all the net violations? Is the net invisible on their side? That is a good point, mauiboy, it is much different watching in person than tuning in over TV or radio or livestats. The issue with TV is they don't show you everything that is happening. I'll have to try to catch the replay. Still, it's pretty difficult to see the ranting when you're friends with the players. I hope you enjoyed your seats, now you probably have a better feeling of my point-of-view during the games. The replay probably wouldn't give you the same assesment as me because you were at the match- you knew what "really happened." It's totally different. Maybe tomorrows match against Boise, let's both watch it on TV and maybe then you can empathize. And as for the fact that they could've won against Cal Poly on night one(or something like that), i'm not sure if passing would've made the difference because in the 5th, Hawaii just couldn't put the ball away when they needed to on all of their match points- i'm not sure it was due to passing on a whole. The Wahine have got a ways to go before they can beat a team like UCLA, Stanford, etc. Maybe sometime in the future, but not now. The Wahine have got more important things to worry about(i.e. winning @nmsu, winning the WAC Tourney, keeping the streak alive(WAC).

A large part of carters kills was due to Nana; the Wahine were double teaming her, sometimes triple teaming her. I saw that game. She was an effective decoy.

Aaronic can I ask you a question? Are you a Wahine fan?

Saw most of the match on TV. Had to leave after game 2, but I did tape the match so I got home to watch game 3. For Nevada, not sure how this team beat NMSU. They have the talent and the hitters, but they don't seem to have that spark from a team leader like they had in Salavea or Moore. The team just feels funny. Even when they had tied or took the lead against Hawaii, you could feel from the match that they weren't going to sustain it. But as others have said, this is a young team. The talent is definitely there, but they need to work together to gel a little better.
For Hawaii, a lot of sloppy play out of the Wahine but the main point is to get the win. Other posters have mentioned the sloppiness of the play. And while I am inclined to agree that it wasn't pretty, a lot of the mental mis-cues have not been recurring as the season has progressed. If these mistakes took place in every match, I would be concerned. However, some sloppy play one night, while not acceptable, is not a huge cause for concern. Maybe the girls spent a little too much time partying Saturday night. For whatever reason, they got the win and that was important.
For Nevada, Johnson is as good as ever. I love watching her play and she really gave her hitters some open shots with no blockers. But this team also looked like deers in the headlights. I suspect when they get Hawaii at home, they will come out firing. Hawaii will need to step up their game in Reno.
I think the connection between Gregory and Kamanao has really progressed well. They are really connecting and Kamanao isn't only relying on the outsides any more. She seems to have confidence in moving the ball around all over the place. As a team, the Wahine are playing better back row defense, especially Houston. She lead the team in digs and while there were some minor errors, she did make some nice digs.

Sanders have 2 kpg, hit .333 and a BS and 2 BA. Not too shabby.
Even the AA type players like Hampton, Foluke, and Richards have off nights too. It happens.
But you don't see their fans critiquing them too harshly.
Can't you just say, not playing good? Why the put downs?
If I see some errors on their play, I just say: Get it back.

Or as I tell some of my friends if they started criticizing:
Do you think you can play better?
And then they will shut up.

I am also pleased to see Gregory and kamanao connecting...I can see somewhat of what shoji said when he called her bown like. Her hitting and blocking improved greatly. I think the connection between kamanao and gregory can be attributed to kamanao finally having better passing and trust in her middles that they can provide the team with quick points. The outsiders are almost seeing a one block scenerio on them at all times unless its a broken play. You know some people was dogging juliana but hey look at the stats she hit above three hundred. I like the fact that when one player can be so called struggling her other teammates can pick up the slack.
I do however dont like raceen. She lacks defesive skills. Always posing like she will dig the ball and the ball is hit right past her. No instinct. I do like duggins even thurlby playing the right back better. I dunno maybe dave is allowing raceen to work out her kinks

Highlight of the night for me: Kari Gregory with the sprawling dig in game 3. Hawaii lost the point, but damn was the bench celebrating.

Or as I tell some of my friends if they started criticizing: Do you think you can play better? And then they will shut up. So what? Hey, everyone's got their opinion and you can't change that no matter what. OK so you disagree, certainly you can't expect me to just change my mind based on that. I may be judging to harshly, but was I wrong?

For whatever reason, they got the win... /quote] Hi Roy! I think you answered this from your own post. They're passing better, so Kanoe is setting better, and they're hitting smarter. They also have a more steady line up for now.

It's just some of the criticizing are too harsh and uncalled for. That's it. As I said, you can say, they are not playing to their potential, some mental lapses, etc.

Made me reminisce bout the days when Angelica Ljundquist and Sarah Chase were some of the Wahine's top diggers.
