Alix, take note of the weekend please. I was told she was at the match at UCLA last nite as well. The team probably took her back to Palo ALto with them. ;D Although, you might mistake her for Brooke Smith of the women's basketball team.

Yes, I predict Alix will choose Stanford. Let's hope she attends Stanford's home matches for the rest of the season--it'll give the visiting teams more of a fighting chance.

Nebraska was a "heavy" favorite over Washington last year? thats news to me, and anybody else whose head is not in their rear end. That match was a "pick em" if you go back to the predictions on this site, it was split, and frankly probably more people picked UW. Stanford should never lose to Santa Clara in any situation. If you ask John Dunning if their loss was a complete failure on Stanfords side, would he say, "well we did have injuries"? Don't think so. How many of the Santa Clara players were recruited by Stanford or could have started for Stanford? I'll let you answer that one. It's competition, and it happens. Stanford has had as many "failures" to win it all as any team. It happens. When people start calling losses in the NCAA finals or regional finals failures, what does that make the teams that don't get there.

Wasn't one of Santa Clara's key players injured for the season as well?
Or was that the year before?

It doesn't sound like Waller had a good game, it sounded like Carter of UCLA was hitting over and around her at will, or hitting it off her. I don't know if she's the answer to the RS problems of Stanford and they need to plug that up to be more solid. It sounded like UCLA was preferentially setting to that side. And if Waller isn't the answer, it certainly doesn't seem like Okogbaa is yet either. What is with that? I thought she was highly touted? You wouldn't guess that from watching her warm up and definitely not from watching her play. Sheesh, does anything every make you happy? Instead of putting down the athletes, why don't you just enjoy the wins this past weekend? Erin Waller is a huge upgrade on the right side and is a better attacker and blocker than Nnamani. So she isn't going to be an All-American, but she's still a huge component of the Stanford team and has played pretty solid for the Cardinal when given a chance. And of course UCLA is setting the leftside more... that's what happens. The outside hitters will invariably always get the most sets out of any player on the court. And yes, Okogbaa is highly touted and has great athleticsim. Of course, when you are out with an injury for oh, say seven months (February to August), you are bound to get rusty. The coaching staff is making sure she gets healthy first and not rush into things. Give the kid a break!!

After watching the Stanford vs. USC match today, it made me want to see what happened the night after when they were against UCLA. The USC match didn't look as much of a blowout as it did on paper.

All of LBSU's injuries were the result of things that happened to their players before they started playing for LBSU.
Brian is just getting really good at recruiting players with previously unknown injuries.

If Stanford can maintain their health this year and continue to play like they did this past weekend, i would consider them a lock for the final 4. The balanced attack of Barboza, Richards, Foluke, and Girard is enough to win a championship. Of course Bryn must be on but she will be at the end of the year. If they can stay healthy I predict another national championship.
