I do agree that Johnson is better at the outside than middle, I was also comparing the stats that was highlighted by Pac10lurker. She was great at the end of last season when she broke into the starting lineup as the L2, she had several 20 kills performances, help the team to beat Washington and was voted the most improved player by the team.
However, since both Carter and her are not passers, there is just not enough subs for both of them. I watch the match between UCLA and Nebraska last year (they are the L1 and L2 on the team )and the Bruins passing was really really bad. However, Johnson's terminating abilities is definitely there, she has a very quick arm swing and she can pack a lot of heat. I also agreed with Pac10lurker that some of her strongest kills are delivered from the outside.
I will not be surprised if she moved back to outside next year since Carter will graduate and both Sather and Daley are OHs can play all around. Actually I hope that will happen and she will have a great senior season

I really have to agree with Charlie....Rachell is very good and if anyone follows UCLA volleyball then you will know that really isn't as natural position as she makes it look. Pound for pound she can out play Nana. Don't misquote me either. Nana is so good, but can only do one thing. A true athlete can perform every position not just three rotations. I did see her play against Washington and what an amazing front row player.quote author=charlie board=general thread=1162612729 post=1162623397] Rachell just seems out of position every time she's in front. And, she's a below average blocker. So just like you, I wonder why Andy doesn't use Schoen. So what you're saying is that you know more than Andy Banachowski about who should be playing. And you're at every practice, right? And you were in Italy, and you were at the Open Nationals . . . Your comments and Blastingsand's comments are pretty off base. Rachell is the starter because she is extemely athletic, very quick, jumps really high, and gets kills the subs could not. Schoen does hit a good slide, but not so much the quicks. Also, Rachell is a pretty good blocker. Give Banachowski some credit where it's due - he knows his team and he knows who has earned the starting spots. [/quote]
