Minnesota dropped 82 points. You want West Coast bias? California lost -- again -- and jumps past Minnesota. But tell me, please: the Gophers were at 817 points, Cal at 795. Purdue was at #14 with 728 points, but they lost twice. San Diego was at 593 points and lost to unranked Pepperdine. Just who exactly was it that you wanted to gain over 200 points and move past Minnesota? Oklahoma? They lost. BYU? They lost. Hawaii? They came damned close. Well, (R), they lost to the best team in the nation: STANFORD! not some little brown jug contender.

The problem is that there were a lot of losses by the teams ranked 11-20. Oklahoma lost and moved up two spots. Minnesota still should be ranked higher than Cal, because they have actually beaten ranked teams (Purdue, OSU twice, Wisconsin, and I think Cal Poly if memory serves). The Michigan loss isn't great, nor was the one to Texas A&M or Louisville-I think that is the case-I forget which match the Gophers won and lost at Nebraska-but they have some wins to balance that out. Still, Cal has beaten Baylor. I would be fine with them moving up if they beat the LA schools, but they actually have to do that to justify where they are, in my opinion. By November, good teams should have quality wins.

May not be saying much, but that was the best I've seen Cal play all year. Frankly Cal could have played better against Baylor - they sort of coasted that third game.

I know that they're gonna be ready for us but guaranteed we'll be ready as well. I'd give anything in the world to be there in person to watch it!! I say it goes to 5. You never know with this year's Hawaii team. It's weird because in NM, it seemed like Hawaii could have potentially swept NMSU, but they choked at the end or each game except 1 and 3. These are two different things to ponder. Potentially Hawaii could dominate, but on the other hand they don't seem to have the power to sustain every lead. In addition it seems like the Wahine tend to play with better on the road than at home..... There will be two main things going into the match. One, revenge. There would be no way in hell that the Wahine and its fans won't have this on their minds after the Aggies snapped that 100 something streak. Two, Senior Night. it'll definetely be a very emotional night for Hawaii's Seniors. No matter what, I think KK and Mason will will the team to win.

As long as Oregon is 12 spots below Cal, the AVCA poll is going to be out of whack.
Not a West Coast Bias, obviously. It's a California bias.

We should remane this thread... The official (R)uffda's got his panties in a bunch thread.Or perhaps The weekly Violin thread. I've never seen anybody aside from (R)uffda! and Gopher fans put so much ridiculous emphasis on a stupid poll. "We're number 10, we're number 10!!"

Give me a break. I never said squat until publius -- because he likes to push my buttons (like someone else I know) -- brought up Minnesota. And even then all I did was try to explain their ranking.
Oregon and Cal are the only two teams seriously misranked in this poll.
Now, leave me alone. I'm tired. And cranky.

Utah, whose Website amusing characterizes their 3-1 defeat of Texas Christian or somebody last weekend as a "knock-down, drag-out fight." Alas, the only hope of the poll getting Utah out of the top ten comes when they face Wyoming (whom Utah beat 3-2 at Wyoming) again on Thursday.

I still don't see why NMSU is ranked at #20 and Oregon at #24. The only ranked team NMSU beat was us (Hawai'i). but Oregon got alot of good wins..... ??don't understand? ?

What you're seeing is collective incredulity by AVCA voters at the idea that Oregon could actually be as good as their record. As has been noted here before, they have a history of winning their preseason and then getting maybe one win in conference play. I don't even think they made the list when they beat Cal; it took another team's loss to get them ranked. The fact that they haven't risen a lot since then is just the characteristic inertia of the AVCA poll. BTW, are you thinking of any other "good wins" for Oregon besides LB State and Cal? Are two good wins "a lot"?
