hahaha are ye implying that my sets (w/no spin) are lifts haha most ppl can't even set the ball w/no spin even if they hold it 1st then release it touch is innate but can be developed that's why no matter what most setters do if they don't have that innate nectar touch they won't have the spankalicious sets that spicer dishes out 99% of the time no matter where she sets it in the court and no matter how pressure packed the situation is when she xcecutes the set her touch is unmatched for the time being but kehoe mite catch up based on her performance when they beat both the l.a teams consistent precise location spicer has a slight advantage over kehoe also since spicer has a higher connect rate w/her quick hitters in xcecuting the fastest offense in the country atm keep in mind that she runs the quick to all her hitters even if she set the ball from outside the the confines of the court or whether her body position is in a pretzel b4 she sets the ball both her touch and location bare no equal

IMO - I think it's safe to say that the majority of the best setters in the country are in the PAC 10...

FWIW, I think some interesting stats to compare are on these two pages: Page1Page2You have way too much time on your hands to post this in two separate threads. I'll simplify for you..pointless posts. If you have nothing better to do than track two new posters you are a very sad individual. You're funny. Just because it might take someone like yourself several hours to deduce your way out of a paper bag doesn't mean that it would take others more than a few seconds. It's also interesting that you tell me about having "too much time" on one's hands and "pointless posts". I was already thinking along the same lines....

So explain why someone with your amazingly quick intellect is bothering to take the time to post two newbies profiles (in two threads no less). Does someone take them self a little seriously? You get the merit badge for watch poodle of the forum. I can hear the applause now...or was that gas..whatever. Yes I know I replied as well....couldn't help myself. I guess I'll get my merit badge soon.

Spicer.
Watch out for Carico. She is not in the classic setter, but her overall game is hard to match up to.

Point taken BIK, you dont like the badgers.... Actually that is not true ruder but the truth of the matter is...Simpson isn't even the best setter in the Big 10, let alone the country.

I know I am biased, but I think that Jackie Simpson might be the best setter in the Big Ten right now. The Badgers are hitting .284 as a team in conference play without a superstar hitter and with all five hitters averaging over two kills per game. On her attacks, her percentage is .422. That is pretty impressive. Also, her back row defense has improved over last season. Main isn't having a great season, in my opinion. The rest of the conference seems to have caught on to her dump attempts, and the Buckeye ball control hasn't helped her out. I don't think the Buckeyes have been as good offensively as they hoped they would be, especially since Szerszen has been a good addition. No one else has really been outstanding, although Glass has been pretty good for someone who hasn't played the position full time before. I don't think Simpson is the best in the country, but I would encourage anyone who doesn't think she is playing well to go to the Badgers' web site and watch one of the archived conference home matches. I think they might be surprised with how well she is playing. I haven't seen Spicer play this season, so I will go with Thompson as the best setter. She was impressive in the AVCA when I got to see her play live again. Kanoe is good, but it seems like the only thing she has the ability to show a lot is her aptitude in running down poor passes. I think Holloway is pretty impressive as well. She is an upgrade for the Huskers, and that freed Busboom to play libero, where she has been solid.

I think Taylor Barnes should be mentioned here from Baylor. She is slowly becoming one of the best in the NCAA right now.

Ok, seriously, I'm sure OverandUnder is hardly offended...stupid banter back and forth is hardly new to this forum. Let me offer a little advice as well. If you don't want to perpetuate stupidity don't add to it. Ignore it and it usually goes away. Almost forgot...my mom says hi.

Well, since I began this thread I will give my "two cents" about the current setters in the NCAA's
First I have to mention Alisha Glass. She is tall, athletic, and a good setter. The difference between her and every other setter in the country is her offensive options. Mostly any setter that has Penn State attackers is going to be good. She needs more experience in that position to be one of the best. Not the best form or hands either.
Kamana'o is a really good setter and is amongst some greats from previous Wahine teams. Her problem is her options. I think Hawaii is good, but they have no shot at winning the National Championship. I almost feel that she would have been better off somewhere else if her goal was to win a championship in college. She has a great feel for the ball and just may need more experienced hitters for her types of sets.
Holloway is someone I think has been trained better than any other setter from that region. She looks like a natural in volleyball like she has been around the sport her entire life. She is very impressive as a freshman, but I still think Nebraska has a slim chance to win. If Houghtelling was in the line up it would be an entirely different story. If you think about her injury (over think I should say) then it came at a great time. Next year's Nebraska team is going to be insane! Cornhuskers 2007.
Carico has to be one of the most unique setters I've seen. That's not a great thing either. I've seen her play more than once and am only impressed by her hitting ability. I think with more experience she will get better, and if that pass is not at the net then forget it. But pass that ball on the net and she is very deceptive and sets from a high vantage point. Mick you should work on her speed or improve team passing. Mick try working a little harder.
I really like Washington's Courtney Thompson, but not my favorite. Her abilities are proven. They have a championship due in part to her. If I had Christhal (sp?) Morrison I would be really great too. She pushes the middle sets as much as possible even with a semi good pass. She does not set Janine enough. I know she may have some timing issues or what not, but what better way to improve and give confidence to that type of athlete then to set her. It would improve the offense at UW.
I know there are many setters out there, and people are entitled to their own opinions, but I must say that Nellie Spicer is my favorite. She has the best package of any true setter I've seen in a long time. What an uncanny ability to move the ball from side to side with such confidence and ability. She is packed full of setting talent and even with a mediocre team like UCLA. If you've seen UCLA play then you know what I mean. They are not even closely matched with the offensive power of Penn State or even Pepperdine for that matter.
Is it me or is Brynn Kehoe worse than last year? Let me point out the fact that Kehoe is a gifted volleyball player. She knows the game and understands how it works even with limited playing experience at such a high level. To me I felt that she was much better last year. May be more pressure this year, but she just doesn't look the same as she did before. Cynthia makes up for her a lot, but most def room for improvement.
Florida has a great setter in McGinnis, but she is looks like she struggles quite a bit. She plays with a certain swagger and confidence, but she needs to remember they compete in the SEC and it's a whole different ball game elsewhere.
And my last setter is the one from Texas. I think she's a very good setter, but not very memorable. If I don't remember her name then there was some other player more impressive than the setter. I know must think hitters are most impressive, but when you watch a great setter run an offense then you can remember them over any other player. Misty May 1998 - who else remembers the other players? I know people in here can name them, but the story of 1998 was May v Bremner!
