I'm really excited for this weekend's WAC volleyball matchups!
First up, Wednesday night, 11/15:
Nationally televised on CSTV: Idaho vs. Nevada. A battle for third place in the WAC? Both teams are coming off of losses. Idaho looks to rebound from a loss at nemesis San Jose State (what an obnoxious crowd!). Nevada dropped a 5-game heartbreaker at Utah State.
Available online: Hawaii @ Boise State. Hawaii needs to win out to "clinch" the 1 seed in the WAC tournament. The 3-5 teams are still up for grabs, but a first round matchup against a play-in winner is always a good thing.
Then, Thursday night, 11/16:
San Jose State @ La Tech. SJSU is in the mix for a third place conference finish. La Tech shouldn't be a huge problem.
Utah State @ Boise State. USU, last year's runner-up at the WAC tournament is feeling some end-of-season run coming on. Currently sitting in 6th overall, a 2-3 spot jump is not out of the question.
Fresno State visits New Mexico State: This one is available at NMSU's website. How will Aggies rebound from Hawaii trip? They need to win twice to keep NCAA hopeful and stay in good position for #1 or #2 WAC seed.
Friday night, 11/17:
The match I'll be at is Hawaii @ Idaho. This one is available online at www.kkea1420am.com. This will be kind of a bittersweet homecoming for me! I've not been in Memorial gym in 3-years! But I can't all-out cheer for Idaho or be in serious trouble. It should be a good match, though. Idaho took their first game ever off Hawaii in Honolulu this fall. The WAC sure stiffed Idaho with 3-matches in 4-days on this schedule!
Saturday night, 11/18:
Senior night at most hosts.
Idaho hosts Utah State in another critical third place battle at stake.
Nevada cleans up after Hawaii vs. Boise State.
San Jose State visits New Mexico State, in what could be a critical seeding battle for the upcoming tournament. I believe this is available online, as well.
Barnburner: Fresno State at La Tech. I think La Tech gets a conference win.
A lot is up for grabs for the Reno tournament. Every match counts for the top 6-7 teams!
WAC Standings:
1 Hawai‘i 13-1 21-5
2 New Mexico State 12-2 29-2
3 Nevada 9-5 15-12
4 Idaho 8-5 9-16
5 San Jose State 8-6 17-11
6 Utah State 6-8 14-15
7 Boise State 4-9 11-15
8 Fresno State 2-12 4-22
9 Louisiana Tech 0-14 6-25
