I heard that Mira Costa will be playing again on Tuesday. I think this is the start of the CIF championships. Can anyone add some details to MC's next match?
I didn't see the televised MC/Redondo match, but I believe MC had beaten Redondo a few times previously this season.
I have seen MC in action before and they are AWESOME!! I'm sorry that many of you only had this view of the team as your first impression. They are usually a BLAST to watch! This talent pool is DEEP.

I watched the match on Saturday and, if I wasn't mistaken, they had a front line at one time that went 6'5", 6'3", 6'4". That would be a great line up for college!
What a fun match to watch, though. Kudos to CA for getting the match on TV.

The match that was televised was for the CIF-Southern Section championship.

Curious. How does California decide what high schools belong in the various four divisions. Mira Costa and Redondo are in Division II. Is it the size of the school? I am puzzled at the placing of the two schools in Division II. Seems that they would be placed in the highest level.

It's a real mess.....schools that already won a CIF SS title now have to play in the upcoming playoffs in totally different divisions playing against a different level of competition.....very screwed up, but then again that is what happens when you leave the decision making to a bunch of principals who don't know their butts from a manhole cover!

The disconnect is between the CIF southern section and the rest of the sections in the state.
Because of programs like Mira Costa and Redondo, whose enrollments would actually put them in a lower division than D1-AA, it was decided to restructure the Southern Section playoffs by comparative league strength.
The rest of the sections use the previous system of enrollment size.
Because of the nature of high school sports, there will never be a truly equitable system for league alignments and playoff structures. Only rarely do schools have athletic programs that excel across the board in every sport, boy's and girl's. Also, some schools with less enrollment may be elite in a particular sport (i.e. Mira Costa in volleyball), but at the same time mediocre to poor in other sports. At the same time, some large schools may be mediocre in all sports.
It is even more difficult in a state as large as California.

Of course, there are some people who don't really care because high school championships are as relevant and as important as the national Rubik's Cube championships.

If all goes the way it should, Mira Costa will be playing Redondo Beach again on Tuesday, Nov 28 at Redondo Union High in the CIF State semi-final. Both Schools host quarter final matches Saturday night. This would be the fifth time the two schools meet this year if both win on Saturday.

For those who care, In So Cal Div 1 La Costa Canyon plays Los Alamitos and in Nocal Foothill and San Benito meet In Division 2 Mitty (Amanda Gill) took out my alma mater, Redwood and will play St. Francis of Mt. View, in So Cal Mira Costa and Redondo Union meet for the fifth time?;; Division III Norcal has Campolinda traveling to rural Analy and SoCal Santa Margarita playing Laguna Beach, while Div. 4 has St. Mary's of Berkeley (Tarah Murrey) v. Christian Brothers, and Marymount v. Francis Parker (Lichtman to Stanford). Winners play in state finals next Saturday. I mention this because almost everyone of these teams has a Top 50 or top 100 type player who has been/will be recruited by a top team (only put down the ones off the top of my head), and some have more than 1. Aslo, most of these teams have not had to swweat yet, but it now gets interesting.

FYI, in Division II: St. Francis vs. Mitty for NorCals; Redondo Union vs. Mira Costa for SoCals.
