I'm probably going to get drawn into an argument w/ a Nebraska fan again by posting in this thread....
Traffic is a huge factor. In the beginning of the season, I decided to check out Texas when they were playing in Malibu and I was stuck in traffic for over an hour and a half. It's just horrible. And again, there is a ton of stuff to do in LA. If you live in LA, you probably like to go out and do a lot of crap (bars, clubs, movies, museums, parties, etc). And if you live in LA (and attended one of these SoCal schools), you probably don't have the typical 9-5p job. There might be a lot more hours. I think it's understandable that alumni are often times unwilling to make the trek. However, the greater question should be why don't these schools have better student support? The on or near-campus students have no excuse not to attend more matches.

HA! I live in a senior citizen's convalescent center, not a house. So there goes that theory. What do you mean? Those geriatric gangs are some of the most violent around. Brutal beatings with canes & bedpans. Scary.

I think the traffic keeps a lot of fans away. And the interest of volleyball in USC is overshadowed by their other sports, so people don't really bother with it. Not to mention they had a big football game that last weekend.

i think its more that just traffic.. If you look at it this way.. I just think that there is too many college teams in so cal... You loo at it this way.. How many colleges are there in socal with Div 1 programs ?? Unlike some others states.. there are more college div 1 teams in socal alone.. USC, UCLa, PEPPERDINE, LONG BEACH STATE, UCI, LOYOLA MARYMOUNT, CAL FULLERTON, NORTHRIDGE, SAN DIEGO, SAN DIEGO STATE, UCSB, UC RIVERSIDE..

I'll go if someone else is driving! Basically the above is correct. I hate to say it, but what else is there to do in Nebraska? Do you think LA cares that there is no pro football team? No. There are too many other things going on. 2 pro baseball teams, 2 pro basketball teams, 2 pro Hockey teams, Movie premiers, outdoor activities, a great choice of college sporting events througout the city, etc. Not to mention a HUGE geography to cover. It'll never happen like it does in Hawaii or Nebraska or those other places. The kids that play in this town, know it.

we have a life unlike those ppl from the choker leagues starting from the midwest out to the east coast i'm a passionate vb fan but i'm sure as hell not a loser and keep track or watch every single match or the majority of the matches or anything about vb just to prove that i'm a fan i always do what i like to do best and that's to go to the gigs and rock n roll w/the women but that's just me however i can state w/high certainty that most ppl in l.a would rather go out and party(however they want) than to go to a vb match on a thursday nite or friday nite or even a saturday nite (w/c btw if ye haven't figured out are party nites for most if not all college studs) unlike those outside of socal where there's no life @ all yes family get togethers are cool and all but to do so by going to vb matches hahaha get a life or a gf or w/e ppl the misconception of general apathy would then be used to define such attitude for socal ppl because most ppl here don't care about anything other than to have fun and live it up that being stated if i have time to go to a vb match or if it's w/in the vicinity (~15miles) of an already determined location of a gig or a party i'm going to i'd go to that match even if i know i'd be sitting in traffic for ~1-2hrs so traffic for me and for the ppl who really wants to go see a good vb match is not an issue @ all besides if ye know how to drive here in l.a and know how much time it'd take ye to get to the venue then ye can minimize or even beat traffic i drove to malibu to watch the pepp/usc match all the way from irvine in oc and it only took me 1hr 10min from parking lot to parking lot during 'rush hr' (and we all know about the orange crush during rush hr not mention the 101 10 110 crush and the 10 405 crack including the entire pch parade from the end of the 10 all the way to the pepp campus if ye take that route) socal ppl just know how to live life to the fullest that's why we're mostly labelled as arseh*les for not caring about others

I'm probably going to get drawn into an argument w/ a Nebraska fan again by posting in this thread.... Well of course you are bry. Traffic is a huge factor. In the beginning of the season, I decided to check out Texas when they were playing in Malibu and I was stuck in traffic for over an hour and a half. It's just horrible. Yes, making the drive from oc to malibu around the time to arrive at the start of the match would be brutal. But how long does it take you to get to LBSU? Or USC? I'm guessing < 1hr. And you have millions of people in the LA area that are less than 30mins from any of the many campuses. So I don't buy the traffic arguement as a whole. Yes for certain drives but to your closest school, no. And as the Hawaii fan mentioned, their commute is also brutal but they still show up. Many of the Nebraska season ticket holders aren't in Lincoln and have at least a 1 hr drive to get to the Coliseum. And again, there is a ton of stuff to do in LA. If you live in LA, you probably like to go out and do a lot of crap (bars, clubs, movies, museums, parties, etc). True, these are not things you can not do in Nebr, Hawaii, Wisc, Minn, PSU, etc... Man I wish they had bars in Lincoln when I was going to school there, and movie theatres would have been asking for way too much. ;D You know my 'What else is there to do in <nonSoCal>... There's just so much else to do in soCal.' rant by now I'm guessing. However, the greater question should be why don't these schools have better student support? The on or near-campus students have no excuse not to attend more matches. Absolutely, and don't try to convince us that the soCal/LA students party more than all the other schools. The best explanation I've heard is the lack of a traditional school/univ pride that leads to ongoing support. This leads to lack of news coverage of non-football/basketball sports, thus low attendance. I'm not saying the typical USoCal/UCLA alumnus doesn't have pride in their former school. Just not enough to attend matches, or to entice local newspapers to cover the sport that much in order to encourage more fans to attend. These 'what else is there to do' schools have a history/tradition of university pride and support that goes beyond just alumni. That's why I don't believe the LA area schools will ever draw large crowds to most of their matches, other than the Univ rivalry matches; UCLA/SoCal. LBSU has done a pretty good job of reaching out to the beach community to promote their program and build longtime boosters/fans as well as to get the students in the stands. So when they hit that cycle with their competitive teams, the fans are already prepared to jump back on the bandwagon with the diehards who stuck with the program during the low cycle years (now). BTW, how many 'so many things to do' activities that aren't available in areas that have good fan support have you done in the last 3 months that have fallen upon the night of a VB match in LA? Just wondering.

USC, UCLa, PEPPERDINE, LONG BEACH STATE, UCI, LOYOLA MARYMOUNT, CAL FULLERTON, NORTHRIDGE, SAN DIEGO, SAN DIEGO STATE, UCSB, UC RIVERSIDE.. That's a pretty valid point. If there was just one or two programs in this area, the venues would be filled. Back to the issue of commute, driving in bumper to bumper traffic is way worse than a smooth one hour trip. It's added stress. If the Hawaiians are able to deal w/ it, then kudos to their dedication. But I think given their lack of competing pro sports or other high profile college teams, it's a less impressive feat. And again, I realize non-SoCal places have social stuff like museums, clubs, bars, parties, movies, but not w/ the same volume and variety.

UCLA student body demographics affect attendance.
The UCLA campus and Westwood is as safe as Lincoln Nebraska except for the corn cobber gangs in Lincoln.
vbsamurai is a little narcissistic.
Posters who have pictures of players next to their monikers are stalkers.

For some perspective on SoCal attendance:
#17 UCLA @ 1752 average per match. #22 LBSU @ 1468 average per match #28 USC @ 1169 average per match
In other words there are 290 - 300 NCAA D1 teams with lower average attendance that each of those three school.

There is no way that U$C and UCLA has drawn those kinds of averages this year,,,,,,absolutely no way!!!! Been there, seen it with my own eyes!
