UCSB has #7 locked up. Interesting that with one week plus one game left of the season no team is mathematically out of the playoffs yet.
Here are the records and the remaining schedule: Pacific (4-15) - Pepperdine, Stanford, Stanford Stanford (5-14) - USC, Pacific, Pacific UC Irvine (5-14) - Hawaii, UCSB, CSUN UC San Diego (4-16) - CSUN, Long Beach USC (4-15) - Stanford, BYU, BYU

I think SC is gone for sure... As is San Diego. Irvine... maybe, but I don't know if UCSB is gonna drop another important game like that, and CSUN certainly won't. Stanford & Pacific leave an interesting situation because they play 2 head to head matches this coming week. If Irvine doesn't pull off an upset it's Stanford or Pacific if they beat Stanford twice

I agree oc about USC, but mathematically they are not out of it as of tonight. I also somewhat agree with Irvine and San Diego. But, as we all know, any team can beat any team on any given night. So, with a week+ left of the season we will see who really battles for the last spot!

If they are on, they can be really hard to stop. I do not really see Irvine winning their remaining matches and Stanford and Pacific. That is going to be interesting

I don't put it past UCSD to upset people either. Problem is that they only have two matches left and the others have three. They need to win both games (since Pacific and Stanford have to still play each other twice) and then win tie breakers with all the tied teams. I have not even looked at the tie breakers between all these teams. They have done a great job this year.

Only one or two matches left for these teams. It is looking like it is between UC Irvine and Stanford. Outside chances by a couple other teams, but there will need to be some upsets.

I watched the UH-UCI video this afternoon. (wish more programs had the intelligence to post them)
UCI is tough..well coached. Not having seen Stanford play, I wonder who is playing better right now.

UCSD. It would be so awesome to see them in there. Might be one of the good stories this year that they are competitive. I am all about the underdog. I think UCSD gets in and upsets BYU in the first round. How would that be?

UCSD would be great to see in the playoff, but it is not going to happen this year. Even if they win their last match (they only have one left) against Long Beach that will only give them 5 wins. Stanford already has 5 and Pacific has 4. If Pacific wins both they would have 6 wins, a split gives Stanford 6 wins, and Stanford winning both would give them 7 wins.
UCSD has improved and they have surprised a few teams this year (just ask Santa Barbara). They could have surprised a few teams in playoffs as well, but that will have to wait. Sorry.
UC Irvine and Stanford have the best chance . . . IMO.

well, things changed significantly with last night's UCI over UH game. UCI is now the definite favorite IMO to get the 8th seed. Stanford could potentially pull ahead if they beat Pacific this week since they are currently tied w/ UCI after beating USC. Dropping both matches will leave UCI winning the head to head comparison (then beat stanford 2x right?). The best Pacific could do is tie Irvine & Stanford and lose the head to head to Irvine. UCSD is gone, USC is gone. Irvine could continue to screw things up by upsetting UCSB or CSUN. It's still an interesting race

Stanford actually beat UC Irvine twice: 3-2 at Stanford and 3-1 at Irvine. UC Irvine needs to win both matches and hope that Stanford loses 1 match to Pacific to get the 8th playoff spot. If both end up with the same record, Stanford gets in bec. of head-to-head wins over Irvine. gostanford.ocsn.com/sports/m-volley/sched/stan-m-volley-sched.htmlLosses to UCSD and USC (both away) definitely not helping them right now.

oh wow you're right, I forgot about those games... So Stanford is the favorite but Pacific can screw it up for them as long as UCI wins one...
