For just 1 time I wish someone with half a brain could tell me why the awards are given to these people before the real season begins.
And Where was Minnesota picked to finish the season BEFORE the season began?
I feel the VB GODS have left Minnesota...and this coaches picks Further proves who continues to do MOST with LESS.
Hint ..It ain't who won.

It's a Big10 season award, Bill. That season is over.

OK lets go for the season only..for coaches..
Who was picked to finish #1 #2 #3 # #4 ..
For the already mentioned garbage THE NCAA threw out there is a definite bias against Minnesota.
How can you recruit against Russ when his place is the hardest to get to...He wins the award every year...regardless how his team FINISHES IN NCAA?
Now Wisconsin gets to Host despite losing 2 to Minnesota...add to the fact they had the final 4 there a few years ago ..add they host almost every year...
Now Poor Coach Mike (Minnesota)continues to take TEAMS deeper than they deserve to go ...Finishes HIGHER than PICKED by the same coaches to finish before the season began....and yet NEVER GETS THE RECRUITING TOOLS that the other 2 coaches get.
I know Russ...I always welcome him with a handshake and a warm welcome...but even he must sometimes wonder how things like these awards pan out.
Getting to Host and post season awards are big deals to future recruits. Minnesota continues to come up short on both deals.

Walbridge had 160 blocks this year 2nd in the Big Ten. Her numbers really picked up as the season went on. Her hitting% was second but her kills were less than last year.

Remember defense plays a larger role in post season... I would prefer for a player to be peaking now defensively ..and I bet a burger so does Russ.

Anyone surprised that Kelly Bowman made All-Big 10? She may be an emotional leader on the court, but she did not have the greatest numbers; usually awards like this don't recognize those who are a huge impact without putting up the numbers. I would have though Peniata would get it over her, but maybe they thought since Peniata was going to get DPOY, they should vote for Bowman.

Peniata did make it and I think enough people recognized what KBow does for the Gophers to put her there, too.

Sorry to see that Cumpston didn't get something. She must have started playing all around too late in the season.

I would have thought Jones before Bowman - and maybe even Cumpston. However, she is the glue that holds that team together which makes it an interesting departure from past all-conference teams to have someone make it for that reason. She definitely didn't have the statistics (outside of digs) of a first team all big ten player.

Just giving everyone their due. From www.beatingadeadhorse.eduIn Ohio State's thrashing of Penn State, the Buckeyes hit .294 to PSU's stinky .161. PSU lost in digs, as well, 54-37, and in total blocks, OSU outroofed the Nits 9.0 to 7.5. All-American Danielle Meyer (.667) outhit Big Ten Player of the Year Megan Hodge (.255), and boy, was she visibly pissed! ;D All kidding aside, I could watch Hodge play all day!

I do not like awarding POY to a freshman.

I do not like awarding POY to a freshman. I don't have a problem with it if the freshman is the best player in the conference; however, I'm not 100% convinced that Hodge is the best player in the conference this season.

Agree. Hodge is a great talent, but has a lot of weaknesses to her game.....esp. her passing. Nelson would have been a better POY.
And Cumpston should have gotten in.
