Am I the only person who thinks Tara Hittle is overrated. She has not proven herself to be a good Left or Rightside hitter, and I'm not trying to bash her in anyway. Yes, defensively.....she is great. But looking back at all the big matches that Hawaii has played earlier this season before she went down on that injury and including the previous year, she has not been that good. There's a lot of talk on here, about her return, and how she will solidify that rightside position, but I don't think so. Jessica Keefe is more likely to get her position back, and the comparison of Sarah Mason to her, Sara was much better.

Well, articles have said that she has been injuried during most of 2005 and 2006. In 2005, I believe she has an early injury right before the team left for Nebraska. She was still playing in the back row, but she didn't hit because of her injury. I don't think she fully recovered from that over that season. And last year is hard to judge, as she went down with another injury. Overall, I think she has a very good game. Her hitting isn't as strong as Mason. I don't think she has the shots Mason has. However she does have more "pop" than Mason on hitting the ball. And she hits from the back row better than Mason. Mason tools the block better and also reacts better to a bad pass than Hittle. However, I don't think Hittle is a bad hitter from the front row. I think with the reps, she will improve.

Again, remarkably, Roy echoes my sentiments. That's exactly how I see Hittle.

Here we go again, Hawaii fans trying to make a player better than she actually is.

Boy was I impressed with Hittle when she was a freshman hitting from the right side. She swooped to the ball and put tremendous heat on it; at that time, I thought, "Wow, she looks like Willoughby." However, this came in only occasional flashes. Since then, after her injuries to her ankle, she has never approached that " take your breath away" level. If she does heal completely and returns to that level, watch out. She is a tremendous athlete and has so much potential as a hitter.

Only someone very athletically gifted would be able to play that well with a hole in her ankle bone. What exactly is the purpose of this kind of post anyway?

I'm simply saying....Hittle is human. Don't put her up on a pedestal only to be shut down when she doesn't perform to your standards. And please don't compare her to Willoughby. There will be no one else like Kim Willoughby.

There will be no one else like Kim Willoughby. You're kidding, aren't you? It is one thing to say don't put her on a pedestal. It is another to say she is overrated, which has a STRONG negative connotation. Don't put her down her, which you were doing. I did not say she was another Willoughby; I just said that she can take your breath away with her hitting. when healthy, just like Willoughby or for that matter Stacy Gordon did. I qualified by saying she shows just flashes of this brilliance. We won't know how she'll perform until she actually plays.

I never said she was overrated, so please go back and check who said that. I'm saying "don't compare her to Willoughby." Players like Willoughby only come once a decade for Hawaii. She set the bar really high for these new girls to strive for. Hittle's hitting never took my breath away like Kim did.

I don't think Hittle is overrated. She came in as a #40something recruit. She wasn't a top 20 recruit and she has contributed when healthy. But, like any athlete, whether Top 2 or Top 200, if you are nursing a significant injury through the season, you certainly cannot be expected to perform at a consistently high level.
