okay - i am going to say that hittle is better than willoughby -- you know why?? because hittle still has at least 2 more years left at uh unlike willoughby who graduated already!! Yeah, another 2 years of nursing the same injuries.....and still be considered by someone like Sexy......as better than Willoughby.

Well thankfully Hittle is expected to be fully recovered by next season, so who's to say she won't make an impact a la Willoughby during her final two seasons. She's a solid player in both the front and back row; will she be as good as Willoughby? I don't know; but she probably won't have to.

I thought Hittle was impressive her freshman season, if a little inconsistent. I wouldn't count her performance this season because she was hurt, and she also wasn't fully healthy in 2005. In my opinion, she's pretty good, especially at right side. For those who think she's overrated, just don't expect too much. And don't believe everything Shoji says about Hittle because he tends to exaggerate. I noticed that he's pretty high on her, as well as some of his other players.

Ahh and I can't help. So I'm going to give my outlook too. 1. Libero. Lee and Ka'aihue are going to be a 1-2 punch in the backrow next season. Lee was one of the most surprising stories for the Wahine as a freshmen, and Ka'aihue is coming in as a stud. I think Ka'aihue is much more consistent than Lee, so I wouldn't count her out on becoming next year's libero. She is also four or five inches taller as well. Lee had a great season, but had passing breakdowns here and there. Not to take anything away from her though, she had a great year. In any case, these two will bring back the strength of the Wahine backrow specialists. Duggins and Woolford also return, but both had waaaaay too many unforced errors in the backrow, especially on free balls. I think they'll both be in the mix, but playing time may decrease with the addition of Ka'aihue. Oh, and then there's Kitaguchi, Ong, and Recca. *Sigh .. I really hate to say it, but it's time to clean the defensive specialist spot. Seven is just way too many IMO, and the reps should be given to those who are going to play. Passing should be better. Defense should be better. Offense has potential, but the Wahine need two players to step up and help Houston. Transition plays/offplays should be better with better passing. Prediction? I think the wahine, without injuries ... will be a top10 team. They are overmatched in the top 5 right now, but if the Wahine can get the other two outsides near Houston's level and if the setter can do even 80% of what KK did this year, they could go a bit higher than 10. Maybe if the DSs actually had some coaching they could be better but all of the coaching is focused on the blocking and scholarship players. with liz coming in on scholarship, thats an automatic pass to a starting position. Lee was WAY overrated but she did well in the beginning of the season. Duggins didnt do as well as i thought she would but did better then woolford at right back. shes a decent passer when they needed it most. woolford just needs some ball control. i really dont know what all the hype about houston is. she is the most overrated player on that team. her attitude is horrible...almost as bad as her passing. but i guess she can have that attitude when its tolerated. after all, she did punch 3 of the girls on her team in the face in an argument before the fresno game. was it fresno? or san jose? either or, she never got punished and was back at practice the next day. the only reason she didnt play in that game was because she disappeared and nobody could find her. i lost a lot of respect for dave for that. how can you expect your players to respect you when you let things go like that? talk about favoritism. anyway, you never know what to expect from her. she is either on or off. not at all consistent. I think the wahine would do fine without her, if not better. hittle is coming back and is going to be better then ever. mafua is going to be fine, the coaches just need to be patient with her. middles blocking well...i dont know why blood stays. she will never play. and now that everyone is healthy she will never travel. you can only take so much bench warming for priority registration. ak will be fine with the experience and keefe will be healthy. passing will get better, woolford is a senior and duggins has a year of playing time under her belt. GO BOWS!

Apparently you have a strong bias against her to begin with when you say "I really dont know what all the hype about houston is. she is the most overrated player on that team. her attitude is horrible...almost as bad as her passing. " Incredibly, you added the contrary to what we've witnessed this past season: "I think the wahine would do fine without her, if not better." What's your beef with Houston, anyway? It sounds personal.
Thus, I don't believe you when you say Houston punched 3 players in the team in the face. If she did it would be a very serious offense, basis for suspension and possibly ejection from the team and/or school, as well as arrest for battery. Shoji would not risk his coaching position and reputation at UH by covering up. Could you imagine irate parents, newspaper sensationalism, possible suits agains UH and Shoji as well? If you cannot confirm that the offense did take place, please refrain from spreading poisonous lies about Houston and from character assassinating her

GO BOWS! I really have to disagree with you on Lee. I mean it's not as if she was a 5th yr. SR or anything. She was only a FRESHMAN!!! From the start she set the standard at Libero that none of the other DS's could come close to.... Yes she did make her fair share of errors, but she's also showed flashes of brilliance throughout the season- and most especially during about 6 out of the last seven matches. The improvement she's made has been pretty big, and I think she'll improve even more before September. She'll start next year, unless Kaaihue is indeed THAT good. Duggins also has potential and needs to really bring back her Jump Serve in order to challenge Lee. Woolford as a Senior sadly might not get much PT. She's inconsistent at her passing, and her serving will be behind Lee and Duggins(pending the return of her JS). Next as for Houston and her little "situation" she had back in the earlier part of the season.... even though she did have that little violent "outbreak" over a certain teamate..... by the end of the season, those two became- as it appeared to be- close friends. I mean the whole team really bonded by mid November. Having said this, it makes it irrelevant to think of bad blood going on within the team, currently. I think Houston has really grown as a player/person this season, and I don't think this kind of incident will happen again(better not!). It seems as if the whole team has moved passed this and I think you should too.... ***By the way Houston is now an AA, and for validation, besides the 5 plus KPG(on paper), go back and watch all of her postseason matches(omit UCLA match)... esp. look at the USC match and how she was able to do such damage to a team ranked (at the time) ranked 6th in the nation WITH arguably the best Libero in the NCAA. That's all.

Did she have her little "outbreak" on Mason?? Just a little curious... I think Jaime Houston does have an attitude (you can tell by her body language and facial expressions). But, she has learned to channel that attitude into her hitting - whacking the crap outta the ball. She turned a negative into a positive. I expect her shot selections, serving, and blocking to improve over the summer. She just needs more discipline and repititions. It's her passing that is REALLY suspect. I don't know if Dave and the crew will be able to shore up Houston on defense and ball control. It just does not look natural for the girl. We'll have to wait and see... Hittle cannot be compared to Mason. Two totally different playing styles. One is long and loopy, the other quick and agile. Mason is a better overall package (hitting, blocking, serving, passing, etc.). Hittle is much quicker on her feet and better at defense and ball control. I think Hittle will be fine, a stabilizing force in the front and back.
