I have seen the list, and it is prepostorous. There are some good college players but certainly most have no potential to be on our national team, and if they do, it ain't good news for the red, white and blue. An example would be Dani Mancuso, very good college player, had a great tourney, but no where near an international athlete.

I never saw her play at Campolindo, although I remember talking to Cal student manager Kati Merritt (co head-coach) that year about her team. A couple of her teammates from that season went East, including Shannon Farrell at Yale, and Kathleen Branagh at Virginia. And of course Kristen Kathan (started as a HS freshman) was a freshman at Cal last season.

Weren't tryouts held in Omaha during the same time as the tourney? I read a news release about it a few weeks ago (I think it was from Pacific's website). Wouldn't that rule out the players who were in the tourney, thus eliminating some of the top players in the country? UPDATE: Found the article: pacifictigers.cstv.com/sports/w-volley/spec-rel/122106aaa.html

Says in that article there will be a second set of tryouts Febreuary 23-25; assume that Final Four participants can try out then, although may be a call back.

I believe that any strong player can get a tryout with the coach contacting JLP/Colo Sprgs to set it up.
As these players are still in school, I would assume they would get some time in CSpr maybe over their spring break???....after a week or so of heavy duty work, the likelihood of a number of them being cut is probably high. But if you don't throw out the net, some players might get away who need a chance. Can't imagine that any of these 'new' names/faces would be ready for 2008 anyway.
The tryouts for NT, those I have seen, can include a LOT of players, so the top 15% would stand out...and then need more in depth evaluation which a week or so in CS will provide..... for comparison.
If there is a list on line anywhere, pls post.

Allison Anderson was a hitter in HS...she was 'driven' and was a stunning player. I have no clue why she chose BC, which seemed to be a given early on...lotsa students in Orinda/Moraga/Lafayette aim for east coast Ivy League for one reason or another. Her class with Branagh and Farrell was year 1 of the current coaching regime at Campo....which has ramped it up each year....culminating in the Calif D3 title this year. Allison has a fire inside her to get it done....has had a fine career at BC. I would expect her to show a lot and be ready to learn everything possible from Sykora, etal.

This is the latest release on their VB website. I do find it interesting that 11 of 12 East Region team players were from the ACC. Allison Anderson Earns AVCA Division I All-America Honorable MentionCalifornia native is one of only 10 ACC players honored bceagles.cstv.com/sports/w-volley/spec-rel/121306aal.html(I picked a different photo I saw of her from the BC athletic website.)

Killingsworth, if the Florida coaches ever wise(no pun) up and move her back to the middle. If she so chooses to pursue volleyball after college, I think Kisya could be a dominant middle for the national team, starting in 08

Who is in line for the 08 Olympics? Is the NT going to keep some of the veteran players?

Hodge, Fawcett, Barboza, McGinnis, Meriwether, Crimes, Hooker, are some. Of these, Barboza is the closest. None of the others can help yet. McGinnis can't beat out Ah Mow-Santos and the middles can't beat out Bown and Scott - yet. Fawcett is probably closest at opposite, but there's no way she can beat out Metcalf right now. The USA outside hitters are so bad that Hodge may be able to come along quickly once she gets in camp and gets a year under her belt. Hooker is at least a college career + from being able to help the national team. Shonda Cole strikes me as more of the same, but at least she's not named Haneef, Crawford or Wilkins. A healthy Kristen Richards may be able to help, but her knees may prevent her from becoming fit enough to help. I haven't seen enough Vander Kooi to have an opinion. The USA is really waiting for the Barboza, Larson, Fawcett class, with Hodge and Engle coming a year later. 2011 and 2012 could be interesting to see how fast these players can get up to speed.

Scott is probable unless Joines can improve enough to displace her full time. Berg could walk into camp whenever she wants to and probably be considered the leader to start at setter. Libero is up in the air between Drury, Davis and Lee - although all could lose out to someone out of college at any time. Nnamani isn't doing anything to help herself. Crawford is playing at least. Wilkins is the other incumbent. Desperate times could call Tom back to the NT which would go a long way toward making them a threat. Barboza could take a year off from Stanford (a la Tom) which would be interesting.
