The thing about the beach is that only a dozen or so players make a living at it. All the others are going into dept. There's only so much beach prize money. They can't all go to the beach!
If you are a national team caliber indoor volleyball player you can make a decent living somewhere.

:DI think what you think is a living somewhere,(in a third world country) makes me wonder what you are smoking? Unless Court comes to the USA, for PAY, very few from college will ever be making a living off Volleyball.

Since we are beginning to talk about 2012, what about current Jrs./Srs. in high school? Aside from Kilineman, who else can there be? Anyone from the Junior or Youth National teams?

Unless Court comes to the USA, for PAY, very few from college will ever be making a living off Volleyball. Remember that there are various indoor volleyball leagues all over the world where players can go and ARE currently making a living. Italy, Turkey, Switzerland, France, Greece, Japan, (all 1st world countries)... Russia and Poland (2nd world), just to name a few. Brazil is a developing country. Puerto Rico (are we talking about countries in the strict sense?). PR does have a lot of out of college players going there. but note that Murina said "national team caliber indoor volleyball player ". NT caliber players would probably get offers in leagues aside from PR. and if you do start your pro career playing in PR, if you are NT level, you probably would not be staying there for very long.

USA National Team players can make $40K to $250K a season. Non-national team players can make $1000/month up to close to $100k/year. That is pretty much take home money as the club also takes care of housing, meals and taxes. So if you're on the bottom end of the scale you may make $7K in 7 months and have no expences to speak of. The same player on the beach probably will never finish in the money in an AVP tournament, and still have to pay rent, food, her coach, trainer, insurance, travel expences to the tournaments, entry fees for the tournaments... There are probably close to 10x the number of american players making money playing indoors overseas as there are making money playing on the AVP.

However a lot of the really good ones that the NT could use do go to the beach because they can be successfull at it. Not all of them go, but a lot of them do.

I did not take into account free room and board plus transportation for players playing abroad.....that makes it a nice over-all package.

Tarah Murrey for 2012 Olympics probably a backup player as she will be a college senior....but a stunning one. 2016 Olympics for her. MVP this past summer Youth National TEam.

I"m sorry, I have been to Puerto Rico before and there was a lot of poverty, except for a few places. Not that poverty is bad, however I am not sure that I would like my daughter living in such a limited living space, where as if she went 5 miles the wrong way she could be in trouble... I also did not realize the money was so could, as you guys have reported. Thanks for the information

Weren't tryouts held in Omaha during the same time as the tourney? I read a news release about it a few weeks ago (I think it was from Pacific's website). Wouldn't that rule out the players who were in the tourney, thus eliminating some of the top players in the country? UPDATE: Found the article: pacifictigers.cstv.com/sports/w-volley/spec-rel/122106aaa.htmlTryouts were on Sunday, the day after. I'm not sure if the final four players all tried out at that time though

Tarah is playing in Europe right now. Per prepvb her team won the tourney. They are likely on their way home.
Who knows when and where she will commit. Hopefully sooner rather than later.
