Couldn't agree with panther fan more- met many Nebraska fans at a football game last season (they were the visiting team), and they were very friendly and great sports regardless of the outcome. This kind of positive experience between fans of different teams is what makes sports so great!!

OMG get picky about my wording!!!! so extreme wasn't the best choice of words, BIG DEAL!! All I meant in my first post was that tournaments like these come down to how the matches are actually played, and in many cases its easy to predict what may happen but it doesn't always unfold that way.

Corn is as corn does, and corn husks go bragh blah blah in 2007. People keep talking about all the returning players from the Nebraska champions 2006 and the return of the 2005 POY and calling it a done deal, but you are all idiots. The only reason Nebraska won it this past year was Busboom. Losing her both as a leader and as a defender who knows all of her hitters well and therefore responds instinctively to the tempo and focus of the team offense will be much, much larger than anyone has yet recognized. I have to say overandunder, you are not being very friendly with your "idiot" name calling. I do agree that there are more than just the Huskers capable of winning it this year. However your analysis that the only reason they won it this past year was Busboom, well your just an idiot for that comment! oops that slipped. Actually, there is a player on their roster now by the name of Schwartz (sp) that will more than fill her shoes. Busboom was very good but way over-hyped.

stumbled into this board while gathering info on Alix Klineman.
Race for second place? Way to much talent coming back at to many schools to start crowning next seasons champ. After that EPIC Stanford/Nebraska final, I would love nothing more than to see them both collide again in next seaons final. Stanford, I think will be there. If Erin Waller builds off that outstanding perfomance in the finals, she's going to be a force. She was the glue holding it together against the Huskers. This kid Klineman is going to explode on the college volleyball world like a nuclear detonation. Her game is much father along than Destiny Hooker at Texas. She's a once in a generation kind of talent. The only real loss to graduation is Kristin Richards. As for my Huskers---there are a few questions. 5-1 or 6-2? I can only hope coach Cook is throwing up a smokescreen w/the talk of maybe returning to a 6-2. Will Christina Houghtelling be 100%? Who's going to replace Dani Busbooms digs, service receive and passing? Will Kori Cooper and Amanda Gates elevate their games? Pavan, Stalls, & Larson are money in the bank. The other question is HUNGER. Flat as they played against Washington, left a bad taste which could only be erased by winning the championship against Stanford. Now that they've won, how motivated are they going to be to repeat? then again, w/that monkey off their back, perhaps they'll be more relaxed and be under less pressure. Stanford came oh so close to taking Nebraska out in front of 17,000 Nebraska fans. That match is going to be a HUGE motivating factor next season. With the plethora of talent Standford has returning they'd get my vote for pre-season #1.
anyway-----I'm thinking NU & Stanford will lead the way, but a bunch of hungry dogs are going to be nipping at their heals---one little stumble and they'll get leapfrogged.
Oh yeah. Nice to find a board full of Volleyball fans.

This is what I love about the Husker Nation (I'm a Stanford fan). They have always been (in my experience) humble and easy to talk with. When I was at the Final Four they bought drinks for us Stanford fans before the game and were the kindest fans. Now seeing a see of red and a patch of cardinal was a bit scary! Oddly, same could be said of Alabama Fans as well.

Hooker has a year of experience under her belt, and I think that she will be the player to watch for this upcoming season. Alix has yet to prove herself. There's no doubt that she is very talented, but I will go with experience anytime. By the look of things, she is the front runner for national freshman of the year honors.

As a front row attacker, Hooker is a sight to behold. Her vertical must be about two miles. Watching her sky and hit down over a Pavan block was waaaaaaaaay up there on my WOW meter. At this point, the rest of her game needs alot of work. I don't see her attacking from the back row, in fact both times i saw her play she was taken out instead of rotated into the back row. Digging, passing, blocking need some work. Athletic and cat quick, her potential is scarey good. Teammate and fellow freshman Ashley Engle's all around game is ahead of Hooker. Texas will be in the hunt.

Texas will be in the hunt. You must not have watched any of the Texas matches in the NCAA tournament. Destinee worked here way into the backrow and IMO she was playing at an AA level by the end of the season. Her jump serve created many scoring opportunties for Texas and she was really starting to get hold of some balls from the 10 foot line. During game 4 against Stanford she absolutely crushed a pipe attack straight down, feet in front and nowhere near any backrow defender. Her blocking and defense will improve no question, she's a competitor. I wouldn't doubt seeing her play all around towards the end of the 07 season.

I think Hooker will have a tough time working herself into playing all the way around. You get better at passing and playing defense the more you do it. She works out with the VB team about 4 times all spring because of her track schedule which doesn't allow for a lot of time to improve any part of her game. That being said, she is a great athlete and could do pretty much anything. Texas also has 4 DS/Libero players on the team right now to solve any back row issues and I would doubt Texas can afford to have Hooker get on the job training come fall.

Psu pre season in 05 was Hawaii twice, Stanford and Nebraska. Last year was at Texas and LSU, Duke, Missouri this year, Stanford, Nebraska. Good point.
