So, I just learned of a player touching 10' 7-1/2" and am really curious how that compares to other volleyball players currently and formerly playing. I think I remember Kim Willoughby touching something like 10' 5" and vaguely recall something about Foluke Akindawero touching 10' 8" in high school. I know that Ogonna Nnamani touched very, very high, as well... 10' 10" rings a bell. Didn't you once say that you could (at one time) hit your head on a basketball rim? You have a good memory. I was a prime example of athletics taking more than athleticism. I think they call it coordination.

Check out for some head on the rim action. Now granted, Dwight Howard is 6'11, but imagine that hitting a pipe . . .

Hooker touches 12', right? As far as recent DI touches, I'd think Nnamani would have set the standard. Maybe it's just her explosive form though. I tryed to find that on Hooker after watching her dent the rafters at home against Nebraska last season. Couldn't find it. All I know is she jumps so high she comes down w/ice on her head. What an athelete. Had she spend as much of her life in volleyball as she has track, she'd be a new paradigm. Going to be interesting to track her improvement.

I would say Ogonna Nnamani is by the far the most effective player who attacks the ball around the 10''10" height. Explosive jumping ability. Even if Ogonna could touch 10'10, I have a hard time buying she ATTACKS the ball at that height. Maybe a full-extension tip...I'd give her that. That's just about 34 inches above the men's net. Let's not be ridiculous now in our admiration.

Now, isn't that blind admiration?

Although Nnamai was very good in that Championship match, I believe it was Teee Williams with the best vertical in the NCAA. She was only 5-10 and touched 10-10. Nnamani is about 6-1 or 6-2. Another player with amazing vertical was Long Beach State's Nichelle Burton, she was also 5-10.
But with the new talents we have now, there are so many players with amazing jumping abilities---- Destinee Hooker of TEXAS, Jamie Houston of HAWAII, Angie Pressey of Cal-Berkeley to name a few. It just amazes me at how physical the kids are today compared to that of yesteryear.
