So, I just learned of a player touching 10' 7-1/2" and am really curious how that compares to other volleyball players currently and formerly playing.
I think I remember Kim Willoughby touching something like 10' 5" and vaguely recall something about Foluke Akindawero touching 10' 8" in high school. I know that Ogonna Nnamani touched very, very high, as well... 10' 10" rings a bell.

Wasn't Tee Williams (I hope I'm getting her name right) legendary for her jump touch -- like 11'?
I have no idea how to verify this, it's just something in my dusty memory.

Sherisa Livingston was around 10-9 or 10-10. Katherine Dykstra (who will probably start at MB next year for UW) touches around 10-7

I would bet that is exagerrated. She'd be probably 10'8 at most. The 11' jumpers were the Cubans from the 1990s. They would hit over the block and get an unreal trajectory. Tee was amazing but she didn't do that. Of the outside hitters, I feel like Ogonna had the best and Kristee Porter comes in second. For the middles, it's tricky. Maybe Erin Aldrich. She might have been around the 10'10 or 11' range. Not a very powerful arm tho.

It's amazing how many kids you hear "jump out of the gym" and "touch 10-2" that couldn't touch a 9-foot basketball rim.

I'm sure Mindi Wiley can touch at least 10'8". She's a legitimate 6'3" with a personal best high jump of (I think) 5'11".

How high did Laura Pilakowski touch? If I remember right, in th 2001 F4, someone mentioned she had the highest touch in Nebraska, at least at that time unless someone's out-touched her.

Hodge has got to be touching 10' 7". What do you think Hooker is touching?

Jump touches in volleyball don't mean a whole lot. It's like the timed 40 or the max-rep 225lb bench press in football. Great for putting down on a resume or All-American press release, with little application to actual in-game performance.
As long as you are somewhere within the range of the mean for your position and level of play, an inch or three here or there doesn't mean a whole heck of alot. Considering the ball diamater of a volleyball and the fact that you typically contact the ball on the attack at least 2-3 feet away from the plane of the net on your side, simple geometry shows you would have to get at least a foot or foot-and-a-half clear over the block to be able to hit straight over the top and down into the court.

When they were National Team youngsters in the early-to-mid 90's, it was said that Danielle Scott and Bev Oden had the highest touches on the team, topping out near the 11' mark.
The Cuban middles (Carvajal and Bell, I think) were said to have been around 11'2" or 11'4". That's why they ran high middle attacks instead of first-tempo quicks, those women didn't need to out-quick the opposing middles, they just hit right past them.

Hooker touches 12', right?
As far as recent DI touches, I'd think Nnamani would have set the standard. Maybe it's just her explosive form though.
