I thought Syd was the most prepared, technically sound, ultra competitive setter in the class.
College coaches like Taylor a little better; that's why she was rated higher in the Senior Aces. Glass and Engle, as you note, were not pure setters. Indeed, neither set during high school.
I selected Carico over Anderson because I gave deference to college coaches who know more than I and because Costa, and not Alta, enjoyed national HS success and won a state title.

Loss of respect for Salvo (mother and daughter). I know them both and I am totally shocked. If I were Beth, I would be looking into who said what to these girls at the tryout (if that's what this is really all about). How convenient of them to announce this after the Europe trip. Beth has always treated her current and former players with such respect and loyalty. Erica Lott (BYU) has aspirations of the National Team-wonder if anyone said anything to her. I'm glad Utah didn't grant them a release. Would a coach be leary of two players who bail on their team in April, or would they ignore that defect in their personalities in favor of their skills? Never mind, I know the answer. Good luck Beth-you deserve better than these two.

Good news for Utah. They won their own tournament yesterday. They beat Montana State, Utah State, Boise State and Utah Valley all in two. All while having their outside turned setter, Kate Robison, run the court. It's looking up for the Utes

Apparently this was the talk of the weekend in Houston and Chicago.
Word is that they had papered the Big Ten and Pac Ten with word of their permission to talk. UW is the consensus answer as the most likely beneficiary.
Word also has it that Beth is taking significant heat from her boss about this. That is just BS if you ask me.

These kids are damaged goods if talk about their reason for leaving Utah is true. No credible coach, who honors the spirit of Collegiate Volleyball, will want to have anything to do with them.

You don't really believe that do you? Coaches just want to win, unfortunately teams will probably be lining up trying to get them.

I also believe in Karma...that is why I laughed my ass off when Tony Romo fumbled away the Field goal snap in the final moments of the Dallas Cowboy's wildcard game vs. the Seahawks this past January. The look on TO's face was priceless. ;D Self-centered players like these bring nothing but bad karma to a team. Whatever benefits they may bring is outweighed by the negative energy that surrounds them.

One post above says that UW is the most likely beneficiary. Yet, I don't see McLaughlin as being the type to win at all costs. Being from Ann Arbor in the middle of Big Ten country, I think he could possibly be talking about Wisconsin more than Washington... Unless I'm very much mistaken?

My understanding is that Phaedrus spoke correctly when he indicated that Salvo and Anderson were headed to UW. Now, we'll have to wait and see how long it takes for the dust to settle, but I believe this is where we'll see them surface. My question to you pedro, since you're a Husky fan, is does Jim have scholarships for both them (because they'll have to sit for a year before playing) and doesn't he already have a setter to fill Thompson's departure?

As a fan I'm only guessing here. For 2007, Washington has 2 scholarships to give. One goes to Jenna Hagglund, our upcoming setter. The other one was reserved for Klineman. Kelly Christian (another setter from TCA) has reportedly verbally committed, but has so far not been announced. If she is a walk-on, then that one scholarship is still open.
What Jim will do with 3 setters is anyone's guess.

They have to sit out the 2007 season and can only play starting the 2008 season.. Mussie and Morrison will be seniors this year so UW will need to replace them.

If they join the team in 2007, even though they can only practice (can't play as red-shirts), and are on scholarship, their scholarships count against the limit of 12.
They could bring them in after the 2007 season, as mid-year transfers, and not count their scholarships until the 2008 season. Of course, they wouldn't have the benefit of a years practice with the team.

In 2008 however 4 scholarships will be freed up - Morrison, Mussie, Deesing, and Aratani - two of those have been commited, one is presumably being held for Tarah Murrey, if she comes to UW, so that leaves 1 open for 2008 unless someone loses their scholarship or leaves the program...
