With two returning National POY's, and 5 AA's on the roster, will Nebraska be the best College Volleyball team in history? Will Jordan Larson prove to be more deadly than Houghtelling or Pavan?

How can you be the best ever if you aren't even the best this year?

How can you be the best ever if you aren't even the best this year? Tryin' to stir the pot are we? A case can be made for Nebraska this season. On paper they look formidable. The same can be said for Stanford. These two would appear to be on a collision course to meat in the finals. However there's a few others out there who are going to have a lot to say in the matter. Penn State, Texas, Minnesota, Hawaii, off the top of my head come to mind. Nebraska is going to have to get there w/out the friendly confines of the Collosium and/or Quest center. Going to be a much tougher undertaking. Pulling a repeat under the way the NCAA's are set up this year would, in my mind anyway, put them up there with the best of all time. Nebraska will most likely be the pre-season #1. If they go wire to wire and repeat IIRC that would be unprecented. (not the repeat but going wire to wire as the #1 two years in a row) It's going to be a fabulous season. Cook alluded to the quality of the field in last years NCAA's when he said he felt there were about ten teams good enough to win it all. Going to be that many again this season. So once again IF Nebraska can pull a repeat, given the quality of the field and having to play the semis and finals on the road----a case can be made for "the best ever"

Hard to say right now. On awards, yes, this is the best team ever. But I think USC in 2003 could have been the better all around team. Nebraska has weaknesses in a couple of positions. USC didn't have that issue. Also, USC has the bragging rights of taking down Florida twice and Hawaii with 2 of the best outside hitters in the nation. Again, we will see what happens in the season and then we can make a determination.

Way to early to talk about this. IF Nebraska has a great season and wins it all again, then and only then should comparisons be made. They certainly have a ton of returning talent but I agree with Roy, some big question marks as well. Should be fun for Husker fans and Husker haters. :-)

Well,of course they will be the best ever. I mean when you have a sand box with state of the art sand in it how can you miss.

They are already the best ever. What other women's college volleyball program has won two National Championships within five months of each other. Even USC's great teams had to wait a year between their back-to-back wins.

The situation provides an interesting outlook to say the least. I don't think any time in the history of the NCCA any other school ever found itself in this kind of situation. But as Roy implied, it doesn't necessarily mean Nebraska will be the best team in college volleybal history, or even in 2007. Of course, on paper Nebraska will be hard to beat. But what if Nebraska gets beat by Hawaii? Hawaii may be in a more comfortable position at this point in time.

Way to early to start talking about best team ever. Gotta wait until after this season to debate this. They will have some challenges this season. How good will Houghtelling be after returning from a serious injury. Also there will be some good competition this year. Stanford, Texas and maybe even PSU will have strong enough teams that will compete with NEB. No home court advantage with 16,000 fans in support at the finals?? Lets wait...

Exactly. There is no doubt this Husker team will be good, they have all the ingredients of a National Championship team, but many other teams will be very improved by then, and there is no way of telling how this upcoming season will turn out. Many teams are returning injured starters, very much like Houghtailing, who is back from injuries. So let's all wait and see......

red, don't think Minnesota and Hawaii will have "alot to say" in regards to winning the title. Both good teams for sure, don't match up with the others mentioned. I see Nebraska, Stanford, PSU and either Texas, Florida and possibly Washington, depending how they finish out in the free agent race.
