*bbbzzzzzttttt* pineapple said NCAA, the 1977 USC team was pre-NCAA. The ORIGINAL question asked "best College Volleyball team in history", you freakin' humongous doofus. I wish you'd read the entire thread every once in awhile.

And to answer the question: no. Not without another middle.

red, don't think Minnesota and Hawaii will have "alot to say" in regards to winning the title. Both good teams for sure, don't match up with the others mentioned. I see Nebraska, Stanford, PSU and either Texas, Florida and possibly Washington, depending how they finish out in the free agent race. Come on.....no "D" can't pass PSU to win it? They are a good team, but until they get better at that aspect of the game they will always end up short. I see Nebraska, Stanford and TX as the teams to beat. They are balalnced in all positions. More importantly, it's going to be a great year.
This year you have several great teams with an amazing collection of talent. Nebraska, PSU, Stanford, and Texas all have teams with an incredible amount of talent. If you could put any of these teams in the NCAA's over the past 10 years, and they would be favored to get to the title game.
And that isn't to discount the other very good teams out there who have the ability to win as well.
Any other year, if you had a returning team such as Nebraska, you could see them easily going wire to wire. This year should be very fun to watch.

Estrella, they have weaknesses for sure, but they have the players to win it. Also, lead the Big Ten both in and out of conference on opponent att pct. Wouldn't call that "no defense" When you have two lefts that can be unstoppable in a match, you have a chance to win. If they play both Price and Derrico 6 rotations they solve a great deal of the issues you bring out.

Isn't the major part of defense the ability to sideout? Seems like the Lions will have that -- and then some.

PSU returns all attackers from a team who lead the country in attacking. A setter who has a year under her belt, and three all-americans. Their name is in the hat for sure. Not saying the favorite, but they belong in the conversation. Here is how I see it in order of teams who can win it: Nebraska, Stanford, PSU, Texas. I just don't see a team out of this group winning it.

I think Florida might have the talent to be in the Final Four... though, I'd think they'd need to put Kisya back in the middle to do that.

How can you be the best ever if you aren't even the best this year? Tryin' to stir the pot are we? A case can be made for Nebraska this season. On paper they look formidable. The same can be said for Stanford. These two would appear to be on a collision course to meat in the finals. However there's a few others out there who are going to have a lot to say in the matter. Penn State, Texas, Minnesota, Hawaii, off the top of my head come to mind. Nebraska is going to have to get there w/out the friendly confines of the Collosium and/or Quest center. Going to be a much tougher undertaking. Pulling a repeat under the way the NCAA's are set up this year would, in my mind anyway, put them up there with the best of all time. Nebraska will most likely be the pre-season #1. If they go wire to wire and repeat IIRC that would be unprecented. (not the repeat but going wire to wire as the #1 two years in a row) It's going to be a fabulous season. Cook alluded to the quality of the field in last years NCAA's when he said he felt there were about ten teams good enough to win it all. Going to be that many again this season. So once again IF Nebraska can pull a repeat, given the quality of the field and having to play the semis and finals on the road----a case can be made for "the best ever" Nebraska will be very, very, very good this coming season. But it all comes down to who really wants it more.....Many teams will aim to bring Nebraska down this season, it'll be interesting to see who actually does it.....

I agree about the talent level of Nebraska, Stanford, Texas and Penn State. If all teams remain healthy they all have the tools to take the crown. Penn State and Texas need to exorcise a few post season under achieving ghosts before I will put my money on either of those clubs! Sorry! I wish those four clubs were in the AVCA tourney this fall instead of the ones with Nebraska. I'd still like to see a Big XII, Pac 10, Big 10 and even SEC challenge tourney set up every year rotating around the country. Wouldn't that be fun??!! Easier said than done I know.

If those two don't better their ball handeling skills it will be the same old story. PSU most likely will have them play back row because they are dangerous as back row attackers, but if you saw what I saw (that is when opposing coaches decided to think) those two were exploited and PSU was history. Price and Derrico for sure is what the doctor ordered, but the question.....Will it be enough? I say no until I see the two LS BALL HANDELING SKILLS for this season. ESTRELLA

Defense is the ability of NOT ALLOWING the other team to score via two team skills: Net Defense and Floor Defense. PSU has some good Net Defense.....Floor Defense....you want to go hummmmm. ESTRELLA
