Yeah, a lot of ifs, roy. I'd really like to see Shoji give Hittle another try at libero, especially since has been passing the longest among the Wahine. If she can get back to her freshman form, she'd be great at either left or right side hitter. Anyway, don't you think almost all positions are a bit crowded this year? Houston will obviously start, and Hittle, Keefe and Otineru (plus Kaufman) are available to play outside or opposite. I'm thinking Ferrell could redshirt, unless she's really good enough to challenge the above mentioned players. Positions are very crowded this year, which leads me to believe both Ferrell and Simmons will redshirt. Agian, assuming everyone is healthy, the middles could be held down by Gregory, Thomas, Sanders, or even Kaufman. The outsides could have Houston, Hittle, Keefe, or Otineru. And with Shoji's style, we could see any of the middles or outsides at opposite. As good as Ferrell and Simmons may be, I don't see them beating out the combinations of these players.

i dont think the wahine can be a top ten team with keefe playing one of those OH positions full time. i think keefe is more of a role player that might come off the bench and provide some contributions in spots here and there. i dont think she can terminate the ball or block well enough to be an effective OH for a top ten team.
i think shoji is really high on ka'aihue starting at libero. im pretty sure, even though shes only a freshman, that she has more backrow skills than hittle. id really like to see hittle be healthy enough to hit outside or opposite. that would really start puting hawaii in a position to go deep into the post season this year.

theres a lot of hype on hawaii this coming season because of how many players they return and how deep they seem. but im not so sure theyll be a better team than this past team. they have the potential to be definitely. but what they gain in ball control they lose in setting. and there are too many question marks as far as health is concerned for me to buy into them being mentioned in the same breath as stanford, nebraska, texas, and penn state. YET anyway. i believe they have one of the best coaching staffs behind them and of any of the top ten teams, hawaii is the one that improves most throughout the year, in my opinion.

I don't agree with Hittle being as good as many on this forum make her out to be. I would say Otineru at this point in her game is way ahead of Hittle. Lee has a year of experience over Kaaihue, but I would love to see both playing. I'm sure Dave Shoji will think of a way. We will definitely see Ferrell one way or another, not sure about Simmons. As far as setting, I think they will be fine, but it will take some time for the hitters to get use to Mafua and Brandt and their different styles.

I think next year's team is going to be a powerhouse. The girls are all training VERY hard this summer. The hitters that were healthy have learned to work with Mafua quite well. I also heard there will be a little 'switching around' of positions. (As some of you are speculating.) I can't wait for the fun to start!
Now Pineapple and Aaronic, you need to play nice...or at least one of you is going on 'Time-Out.'

I actually think blocking was one of Keefe's strengths as a right-side player. At times, she was also a very good quick hitter, but her hitting was indeed very inconsistent. Whether she plays full-time or as a role player, I'm hoping she'll be a key part of the Wahine this year.

Really, I rib Aaronic a lot because, surprise, surprise, I like him, even if he has a short fuse and calls me an idiot who no dono how to speak englsih. I got it coming for calling him "Ironic" when I read his posts for the first time 2 years ago. I now know he doesn't like it so I'll respect that. But he can call me an idiot if he wants. In social work it's called projection, i.e., you think everybody else is like you. Hehe! Going back to the original subject of the Wahine's health and how they'll be, I take lowVBIQ's words as true about how the Wahine's will be a powerhouse this year. She may not be so technically versed in VB as some of the others but she knows what she's talking about whenever she shares inside dope. I, too, may not be as astute in VB as many of the other posters on this board, and believe me, I appreciate the information posted on this board and respect the opinions of all posters, even Aaron's. I enjoy reading what Roy has to say, even if I see things diffferently at times. The guy is so level headed and cool. As for me, I'll always see the bright side of the Wahine and always assess them high (I rarily deviate), and my comments reflect my attitude- perhaps, this is why I have been wrong in the outcome lately, and perhaps this is why Aaron calls me an idiot. If I were truly low IQ I'd resent it. But my IQ is on the high side, so Aaron can call me idiot and I don't mind it at all. ;D

i think keefe was coming along fine last year until her injury set her back I thought so too, she was playing really well, even at that match at New Mexico State where she was injured, she was indeed playing with a lot of confidence and coming in on her own.

She was injured at La Tech, didn't play played at NMS. She came back the quickest in rehab of the injured, she's working hard getting back to where she left off.
