It's also ironic to me that Minnesota's Brook Dieter is doing better stat-wise in almost every category than Alix against at least comparable teams and both being left side attackers. Small sample size means it is too soon to tell (either way). I do doubt Alix will develop into a primary passer during the season, but if she does what the team asks of her, that's fine with me.

I'm ready to give her props.
I think it's absolutely fabulous and a testament to...well....uhm....yeah....uh...it's a testament that she's come this far in her collegiate volleyball career and has NEVER, EVER, EVER, EVER (and damnit...I mean NEVER) been implicated in any kind of dogfighting scandal. Nor has she ever been known to execute dogs that lost fights by drowning or hanging.

If Klineman didn't have Barboza or Foluke on her team she would have more kills.... Stanford has alot more firepower than Minnesota. So, yes on paper Dieter looks like the better player, but that is just on paper.

I fail to see the irony. Dieter isn't even in the PAC 10!

If Klineman didn't have Barboza or Foluke on her team she would have more kills.... (snip) And Stanford would not be ranked #2 and Klineman would have to carry a lot more load. Last time I watched, VB was a team sport. She will be great, I have no doubt, but let's see how she does at NCAA tourney time. Freshmen have been known to "hit the wall".

Here I thought she had been doing quite well, but I hadn't realized that was all tainted because she wasn't in the Pac 10. I'm really glad you pointed that out, otherwise I would still be laboring under the misconception that she was actually performing pretty well.

You said Dieter was doing better in "almost" every category. Is there one where she's doing worse? Did I miss it on first reading? "As well or better in every category" may be a mouthful, but if it's true....

What if Dieter, Klineman and Barboza were all playing for Stanford -- who would start as left side hitters? Or is this like asking a Chicago Bears fan who would win the Indy 500 if Mike Ditka was one of the drivers.

The stats are provocative or noteworthy, and provide some interesting contrast. But I don't see the irony. Is this like that Alanis Morrissette song where none of it is actually ironic, and therefore that makes the song itself ironic, and we are supposed to believe Alanis did it all on purpose instead of being a bit fuzzy on the details, and yet an entire generation now defines irony as "rain on your wedding day", and they think they know what irony means, but they really don't, which is really ironic, dontcha think?

I was comparing the original poster's need to give Alix props when she's been getting props since well before she played her first colllegiate match.

"Effective Pints / Game"? They have beer drinking stats now? It's all about hidration. If players don't stay hidrated well enough their performance is likely to deteriorate.
