This is a really bad loss for the Gophers (to get swept so convincingly I mean since Cal is a quality team). I wonder what the coaching staff does to fire these girls up for next weekend? They probably don't even need to watch the replay since it sounds like it starts with the passing and passing drills in practice. Only 1 quality win in the pre-season and 3 loses to Top 25 teams. Hopefully San Diego can run the table in their conference.

Creighton will be a good match for them.
I don't know. Not sure they can afford to keep Kyla on the left if they're going to pass and defend like this. Sure would be nice if someone would step up and win the other OH spot, whether it's on the left or the right.
But it may not matter if the passing doesn't improve. I don't see the serving getting much tougher. They don't have a really good jump server on the team and all 3 losses have been to teams with 3, 4 or 5 of them.
This wasn't the team I saw last weekend. Now I don't know what to think...

YO (R)uffda! Looks like I was right. Next time you want to get personal on a board and start calling people names go to a mirror, that way you only have to apologize to yourself.

Looks like you are still a troll. You didn't -- and still don't -- have a clue. 5 posts and all you can do is rip on Minnesota? Take a hike, troll.

I agree (R)uffda with the troll comment. It just looks like MN didn't come to play and Cal was firing on all cylinders.

Good luck to both of you during the rest of the upcoming season. First, I have not personally attacked MN (which is what you seem to enjoy doing). I merely pointed out that they are not playing well so far this season and were not worthy of a #12 ranking, as evident by their play at home last weekend and versus Cal. Previously I also mentioned that MN has enormous potential and may be able to climb up the ranking as the season progresses. Next I though this board would be a decent place to discuss collegiate issues. Maybe I was wrong. What have you done to be able to suggest that you have a clue? It takes a little more than blabbing on a board to suggest that you volleyball.

Didn't we expect expect matches like this (even in some conference macthes) because the tha uses like 3-4 frosh as starters, other young players as subs and the resulting confusion of learning to play together?
I don't know of anyone that expectected thee Gophers to win the conferene so it will take an at large bid to get into the tournament. Where the at large selections are at least goofy as sin and the seedings are a hodge podge ofteams shifted around toget mothes the the selection committee wants in the later round.
It doesn't matter so much where they finish in conference standing or their final ranking(s) as long as they are playing their at / near their best level of the season and exceed the criteria for at large bid.

I was really surprised by this. I know Cal is good (but how did they get swept at CU?), but I didn't think they would blow out the Gophers. I guess it shows that, if you can't pass, you look bad. On the other side, it looks like Cal kept in system and got all their hitters involved, which makes them very tough to defend. I hope that Pressey is okay; she is a really dynamic hitter and fun to watch. Congrats to the Bears on a convincing win. I hope Minnesota can bounce back and play well next weekend. The conference really doesn't need any more bad losses.

calbears.cstv.com/sports/w-volley/recaps/090907aaa.html Match report from Cal website, and you can get the box scores there too. Joyous 'after match party' for Cal fans in Haas Club Room .....poster signing, and the sodas and brownies and cookies ran out real fast.... One day of celebrating and back to work on Monday....It is not Minnesota's m.o. to go to sleep after a difficult match. They will more than likely continue to be a force in the Big 10 this year. We've all been there. After the Colorado loss last weekend there was no evidence last nite or a noon today that this match was about to happen. 16 service errors last nite...at home! Whatever the coaches fed the team for after match lunch today needs to be packaged and the mental challenge/talks that brought this stunning match to the forefront we would sure like to repeat regularly....It was mind blowing.... It does underline what was said all last year about missing players due to injury...and the different sub roles the lineup had to work with. Along those lines, Pressey's calf injury was only a very bad cramp that she got thru. Thankfully. Whew!

The conference really doesn't need any more bad losses. I asked Coach Feller, and they just had a bad night in Boulder, with lots of the little things not working (esp service errors). Cal looked pretty bad last night and this afternoon, but had enough talent to easily overcome Utah State and E Kentucky. Apparently they were using those matches as an opportunity to try new things and got everything working for Minnesota. I was rather disappointed, since I was expecting more out of Minnesota. They have the offensive firepower but their blocking and floor defense were nothing like the teams I heard of and saw 3-4 years ago. Roehrig can hit the snot out of the ball and is coordinated for her size. However - she seems rather slow and the Cal block was pretty good at containing her. There was a meet and greet after the match. I think I ate too many mini brownies and had too many sodas. Since this is Berkeley - they didn't have any THC in them. I asked Angie Pressey how she was doing, and she said it was just a leg cramp. It looked painful though. I've had several before (esp bike riding) when I just overtensed my calf, and it felt like I had a knife shoved in my leg. She should be OK for next week.
