Hawaii sweeps: -28 -22 -24
A very bad performance by Hawaii. I think the numbers will tell itself. Hawaii was down 1-4 each game and had to fight each game. Commentators mentioned that Dave Shoji must be happy to get a fight in a WAC match, however, considering Boise State was on a 5 game losing streak, I'm not sure how happy anyone could be with Hawaii's performance except for the W they got.
Again, if I Hawaii is to make a run come tournament time, they need to improve every single set, and they are not doing that. If they play like this, they'll get swept at NMSU

Looking at the stats, Hawaii committed 28 hitting errors, were out-blocked 11-5, and were even outhit .181 to .186. Still got the sweep, but what an ugly match.

Nice try, troll. (I suspect Wolfgang has decided to start some new aliases.) Wrong. I don't post under any name other than "Wolfgang", "BiK", "Beachman", and "chancelucky". Oh, and also "38Skynyrd" (having retired "SonofBarcelonaBob"). Once in a while, "Ong and Blood Fan". And "(R)uffda!", although the parenthetical and exclamation point have gotten annoying. What's THAT about, right?

Eeewww.... that was an ugly win for Hawaii. Ball handling was poor. Out blocked 20-9.
They were lucky that BSU was worse.
They're gonna struggle on the road.

i say shape up wahine or you guys are gonna suffer. honestly if you guys lose to NMSU, LA Tech, SJSU well i think i am gonna be sick.
hawaii is better than all three teams they are facing on the road, but they really need to show up, especially at NMSU, because i know the fans there won't help much. i was hoping nevada beat the aggies. but no they did not, well hawaii better make a statement to all three teams this coming roadtrip. i would hope they can sweep all three, but with this poor play against uhm, boise state?? well i don't see any sweeps ahead. if hawaii wins, i know the other teams are gonna make them work for the win.

That was an ugly match. Was not clean in any count. Boise State is a very good serving team and they took a lot of chances. Obviously, that is the best strategy against Hawaii. Go for every shot because you're the underdog. They didn't get a lot of aces but put Hawaii into all sorts of passing trouble. Tamietti is a very good hitter and Hewitt is a very smart hitter. I hope Hewitt's sister is just as good.
Hawaii was very strange tonight. Both Kaaihue and Brandt struggled. Kaaihue just didn't seem to have a good match. She missed a lot of defensive assignments and let a lot of diggable balls fall. With the passing slightly off, Brandt had some trouble with her sets. She was under-setting the middles and the sets to the outside hitters were off point. Blocking was off, especially on the left side where they were letting a lot of attacks off the slide go down.
Defensively, Hawaii did very well in the back row and their serves were very good. They really gave Boise State a lot of problems and Shoji adjusted well to Tamietti. Once they started serving her short, her approach was completely off and she couldn't get as many kills. Their serves are moving around the court very well. Also, they were able to pull away when needed and that is something they learned from the preseason. Now that they can refine their attacks in tight situations against easier opponents, you can see their confidence building.
A win is a win but there is a lot of room for improvement. They can't play like this on the road and it will be interesting to see what happens when playing at other venues. Some teams play better on the road and others don't. NMSU is going to be a huge test next Saturday. It should be a great match.

a frustrating match to watch ... brandt really struggled with her location tonight. her serving was spectacular for a second straight night, but her hitters had a tough time with the sets Brandt fed them.
not all of it was her fault. b/c the passing was inconsistent tonight too. but even when the pass was there, Brandt's location wasn't.
also for the second straight night, Gregory looked real sharp on offense. some nice heat on many of her shots. just get the set up high for her and she can take a real big swing. or maybe losing her starting spot has freed her up to just hit the damn ball ... she started the year so tentative hitting-wise. i think the past two nights, she made a real case for her starting job back.
or maybe the trick is for her to be brought in off the bench, just to get her motivated. watch her expression, she's played with a little extra intensity when she was brought in both nights ...
